Hello everyone,
Well, here we go again in a snap lockdown situation. We can only hope that this will curb the trend of cases and that we will come out of this situation in a week’s time.
At our Wednesday meeting we were fortunate to have three guests being Jenny Vickery & Susan Boyle from Warm Touch, and Tony Flack. Jenny gave us a little overview of the wonderful work that they do for the community. In her words if someone needs some help, we will help. These words were so fitting with Rotary as we are all helping in our communities. Jenny was unfortunately not able to attend our changeover dinner in June, so VP Lee asked her to come along to Wednesday’s meeting as we should have had DG Jeff in attendance however due to Covid lockdowns Jeff wasn’t able to attend. Never mind we thought as we also had DG Assistance Anne coming to our meeting until early in the week she was also in Stay at home orders after attending the Ballina Q & A on the previous Saturday. In both of these absences our Past District Governor Peter Robinson who is also our Foundation Director for 21/22 was able to stand in and present a well deserved Paul Harris Fellow to Jenny Vickery for her hard earned efforts through her organisation of Warm Touch. Peter was assisted by VP Lee who pinned the newest PHF inductee. Keep up the good work Jenny.
Tony Flack works for Tursa employment and is well known to myself as he & I sit on the Northern Rivers Regional Advisory council for Business NSW. Tony has also been a past judge of the Clarence Valley Business Awards and worked with Camellia, Bob & myself in judging these awards. We hope to see Tony along to more meetings in the future.
Unfortunately due to the restrictions we are not able to meet this Wednesday so enjoy the week off and hopefully we will back the following week.
Thursday night we had our August board meeting. The meeting was again a very productive meeting. At our next regular Wednesday meeting we will have a Club Assembly where Secretary Greg will give a summary of the key & important outcomes from the Board meeting and there will be opportunities for members to ask questions of the individual directors to clarify any of the Board meeting outcomes. Thank you to each of the Board members for your valuable input & discussions on Thursday.
I would like to advise the members that one of the items discussed at the Board meeting was the resignation of long time member Richard Nichols. Richard has been an invaluable member of our club and been a Rotarian since 1995 being some 26 years. I am pleased to advise that the board unanimously agreed to make Richard an Honorary member of our club, so you will continue to see Richard around the club in the future when he is able to.
“Secretary Greg changing over our 21/22 banner in the cabinet at Roches on Thursday”. He thought he was actually doing his conductor bit but what he didn’t realise it was only the cabinet, and not the orchestra!
Saturday I did my 2nd 50th Park “walk”. I was honoured to have an entourage to accompany me doing my 100th walk at 7am Saturday. I had my dear wife Gerelle, Debbie & Rick, fellow Rotarians David, Leila, Bob & Kathryn which I thank you all. I also had my regular walkers of Margaret Ryan, Jean Tully, and our latest PHF recipient Jenny Vickery also help me finish the 100th. I am now part of the Parkrun 100 club!
Please stay safe, take care and remain positive during this lockdown as we will get through these times and come out the other side, and hope we can get back to our regular meeting on Wednesday 25th August
