Hello everyone,

I trust that everyone had had a good week,  and staying well and safe.

We were very humble this week to be able to award yet another Frank Glasson Scholarship to a very worthy awardee, Sarah Rigby-Pierse on Wednesday at our alternate meeting place at the Crown Hotel. Sarah was accompanied by her Mum Mandy. She was very excited to receive our award which has been running for 19 years now, along with an additional bonus of $500, making it now $3500 in total. It was a pleasure to be able to continue this award in honour of past member, the late Frank Glasson and for our wonderful Judy G to be able to be apart of this very important award each year. We wish Sarah all the best in her studies.

It was a pleasure to have our honorary member Richard Nichols & Jane at our meeting this week as he along with past member Don Philbrook continental to do a great job in screening applicants for the award. Not to forget Leila & Don C who did an incredible job in the interview process.

We had another very productive board meeting on Thursday night to discuss projects & other matters to keep our club progressing into the future. The minutes of the board meeting may not be available as usual via Clubrunner due to my abscence from my PC, however if anyone would like a copy I can send you a copy.

I am away for the next two Wednesday meetings as I am in South Australia doing some sightseeing & exploring the many sights of the Adelaide region. No doubt they may be a glass or two of some fine Barossa grapes in a glass being sampled during our stay. 😃🍷🍷

In my absence our dynamic VP Lee will look after matters,  and no doubt will have wonderful support from members Thank you Lee.

As I write this email, a shot if the view from my seat on the Dash 8 descending into one of the best harbours in the world.

Take care  stay safe & well, and will see you all in a couple of weeks,

Centenary President,
Robert

DISTRICT EXPO IN LESS THAN 8 WEEKS

This year's event is going to be a real country affair, it's in Tenterfield! Go to the Expo Website https://rotary9640.org/page/district-conference and check out what's happening. There you find the program, a brief summary of all the Keynote Speakers, and of course, you can register. But of course, one of the big attractions of attending a conference is always the deep feeling of Rotary Fellowship. Being in the country, formalities will be kept to a minimum. Here is another introduction of a keynote speaker:

Al Mabin:- Australian Rural Lifestyle Photographer.
Al Mabin Pty Ltd CEO + Founder / Keynote Presenter/ Agribusiness Leader / Visual Storyteller / 2015 Asia Pacific Female Entrepreneur of the Year/ Traumatic Brain Injury Survivor Al Mabin Pty Ltd was founded to inspire positive action, reconnect people to the outback way of life and celebrate the essence of the Aussie bush through the power of storytelling. Al’s company wraps life-changing messages in riveting stories and spectacular imagery to entertain, educate and inspire. Al believes in uniting people to the cause - to positively bridge the gap of knowledge and understanding in agriculture and transport; two industries integral to your life. Passionately driven by storytelling, Al works to artistically highlight the amazing efforts of two industries that are the backbone and grass roots of Australia. Al’s group, Al Mabin Pty Ltd do this through a number of avenues; ground and aerial photography and videography, keynote speaking, teaching along with the sales and marketing of two self-published best sellers, ‘The Drover’ and ‘The Driver’. Al choses to self-publish because she wanted to ‘own’ her products, to be the face of them in all aspects, to ensure their success.
POLIO PLUS MOVIE AFTERNOON

We have secured the Polio Movie for this year’s Polio event however it has to be delayed until Sunday afternoon 13th March at the Saraton commencing at 3pm. The movie is a blockbuster called “The Duke”. A british comedy not to be missed: "Set in 1961, it follows the story of Kempton Bunton, a 60-year old taxi driver, who stole Goya's portrait of the Duke of Wellington from the National Gallery in London. It was the first, and remains the only, theft in the Gallery's history”.

In conjunction with the movie the Clock Tower will open for lunch that day and offer their normal menu along with a variety of $20 deals that will include lunch and a Brownie dessert....$5 from every $20 meal sold will go toward Polio fundraising.  Those wishing to have lunch prior can just ring and book their own tables and order on the day.
HUMOUR FOR THE WEEK
I sat there waiting for my new doctor to make his way
through the file that contained my very extensive medical history.

After he finished all seventeen pages, he looked at me and said, "Peter...
you look better in person than you do on paper."
Letter of Appeal for support.
Since 1994 the Clarence Valley Review and Clarence Valley Independent have produced a free weekly printed newspaper to residents throughout the Valley. We also produce an excellent digital version of the newspaper.
Back at the start of the Covid pandemic in early 2020 we were forced to halt production of the print version of the newspaper, but readers demanded we reinstate the weekly delivery of the newspaper. This was done after only a couple of weeks (and after the Federal Government introduced JobKeeper), and today we produce both the weekly print edition and a comprehensive digital edition.
Like all businesses, the Covid pandemic has had a significant impact on our business; unlike most businesses however we do not charge the general public (for their copy of the newspaper), but rather those businesses who advertise with us. During times of financial hardship, businesses look for ways of cutting cost, and promotion and advertising is often one of the first cuts made.
During the past two years almost 150 Australian country newspapers have either closed their doors or gone to digital versions only. This happened right here in the Clarence Valley with both the Daily Examiner and Coastal Views ceasing production of their printed editions. The Clarence Valley Independent continued production of both and is the only locally produced printed newspaper.
The question must be asked, does the Clarence Valley want or need a printed copy of the local newspaper? If they answer is yes, then we need your support.
All we are asking is that you remind your members of the fact that your weekly report is printed free of any cost to your club.

We appeal to your members to support wherever possible, local business (particularly those who support YOUR local newspaper), therefore, making it possible for your report to be published. Can you please make your members aware of our appeal?

Attached to this appeal letter are copies of support ads I am asking your organisation to attach and distribute through your newsletters, Facebook page, website etc.
