JOKE CORNER 
 
A trucker came into a truck stop cafe and placed his order. “I want three flat tires, a pair of headlights and a pair of running boards.”

The brand new blonde waitress, not wanting to appear stupid, went to the Kitchen and said to the cook, “This guy out there just ordered three flat Tires, a pair of headlights and a pair of running boards. What does he think this place is, an Auto Parts store?
“No,” the cook said. “Three flat tires mean three pancakes, a pair of Headlights is two eggs sunny side up, and running boards are 2 slices of Crisp bacon.”

“Oh, OK!” said the blonde. She thought about it for a moment and then Spooned up a bowl of beans and gave it to the customer.

The trucker asked, “What are the beans for, Blondie?”
She replied, “I thought while you were waiting for the flat tires, Headlights and running boards, you might as well gas up!”

This week our meeting was well attended and we welcomed a special guest Skye Sear.  After our regular stretching we discussed the fantastic news that our combined application with Grafton Rotary has been successful in obtaining grant funds from Rotary to assist with the Park Project between the 2 bridges of Grafton.  This project will involve the installation of seating, rubbish bins and a bike rack.  We eagerly await the outcome of the Community grant application to assist with this funding.  If you are interested in being involved in this committee please let either Robert or Lee know.  We have exciting plans to incorporate the 100 years of Rotary in Australia Baton relay through this area in February 2021,
A reminder that Leila is seeking donations of clean cotton sheets, towels and individual hand soaps to top up the Birthing Kits for a workshop later in the year.
We had a Member Minute round the room where everyone had up to 1 minute to tell us some of their best memories of Rotary.  It was so inspirational to hear the stories from our group.  Primarily our members are proud to be involved in a trusted charity organisation where you meet like minded people for fellowship, comradery, community involvement and opportunity that may never have been possible. 
Roches Regular Raffles are back on each Friday afternoon from 5pm and drawn approximately 6.30pm.  Come along and have a bit of fun for the end of the week.  We will be preselling raffle tickets at our meetings for those who cannot make it.  You do not have to be in attendance to win.

Grafton Midday First Canon
Midday Member Camellia Flanagan appointed as a Canon
The Bishop of Grafton has appointed Camellia as an Honorary Canon of the Cathedral. As an Honorary Canon, Camellia will not be a member of Chapter but she will serve as Canon Pastor within the Cathedral community. I am pleased that it has been possible to recognise the valuable ministry that Camellia exercises among the elderly members of our congregation as well as to families during times of bereavement and loss. Congratulations  to Canon Flanagan. Great to see Camellia at last week meeting.

1. Attractively wrapped Christmas cakes or mince tarts, using cellophane and ribbon (much better that the old boxed Lions Xmas Cakes) for an Xmas project – to take orders beforehand from a pictured example/display via email for distribution/bulletin/Facebook campaign etc.

2. Centenary Rotary Celebration Dinner – To combine ‘A Musical Feast at The Cathedral’ with the CVO with our Rotary Club, proposed for Saturday 10th Aril 2021 (given Covid restrictions).

3. Rotary Centenary Labelled Port to sell throughout the year. $12.50 (inc. GST & labels) from Robert Channon Wines – possibly sell at $25.00 (making $12.50 each bottle). See attached info.

4. Planting of 100 trees throughout the town during the year, or ‘all in one go’ -  (This idea has been quashed by all CV Councilors previously and the idea has been redirected to the park seating  area between the new and old bridge as a group project with Grafton Rotary).
However, Ulmarra planting area is another possibility to check with Council.

5. Buy/produce/collect/make 100 whatever’s (i.e. Promotional Water Bottles, Clothes/ Blankets/Small compact mirrors for girls as an award at school or Caps for boys etc) and send to 100 overseas countries / or just pick a few third world schools along with certificates to hang on walls all over the world, as memento from our little town of Grafton Australia.

6. Send 100 decent/appropriate left-over educational books from the Book Sales to English speaking schools or those learning English overseas with promotional book marks.

7. Centenary 100-year walk/run/ride of some sort through our historic town – possibly tie this in with the Centenary Baton Relay on Friday 5th February 2021.

8. Have the Daily Examiner/Independent team up with us, writing up the A History of Rotary in Australia, with a famous story about Rotary for every month.

9. Free-standing Children’s Book Library. Littlefreelibrary.org is an idea (big windowed look-alike letter boxes) placed outside of people’s houses who would like to monitor them (e.g. an older person) by filling them up with kid’s books. Little free library has been a success in the USA since 2009 and has now started operating in Brisbane. Rotary could buy or source enough materials for 10 of them and either have the Men’s Shed or a few handy woodworker Midday members make them up. It would be up to the person looking after their box or a Rotary member to restock with books. Possibly, have a competition for schools to decorate them to create interest.

FOUNDATION FUNDING
The Rotary Foundation transforms your gifts into projects that
change lives both close to home and around the world. As the
charitable arm of Rotary, we tap into a global network of Rotarians
who invest their time, money, and expertise in Foundation priorities,
such as eradicating polio and promoting peace.
ANNUAL FUND-SHARE
Annual Fund-SHARE is the primary source of funding for a broad
range of local and international Rotary Foundation activities.
Every Rotarian, Every Year (EREY) is the fundraising initiative
designed to encourage support for the Foundation’s Annual Fund.
EREY aims to engage every Rotary club member by:
Encouraging members to contribute to the Annual Fund every year
Encouraging them to participate in a Foundation grant or program
every year
Through the SHARE system, contributions to The Rotary Foundation
are transformed into grants for projects that change lives.
At the end of every Rotary year, contributions to the Annual Fund-
SHARE from all Rotary clubs in a district are directed into two funds:
Fifty percent is credited to the World Fund.
Fifty percent is credited to the District Designated Fund.
The Foundation uses the World Fund portion to pay for the worldwide
grant and program opportunities available to all Rotary districts.
Your district uses the District Designated Fund portion to fund the
Foundation grants and programs of its choice.
The Rotary Foundation’s funding cycle makes district contributions
available for use three years after they are received. The three-year
cycle gives districts time to plan projects and activities and allows the
Foundation to invest the contributions.
Your district Rotary Foundation committee decides how to use the
District Designated Funds in consultation with the clubs in the district.

Districts may use up to 50 percent of the fund (which might also include spendable earnings from gifts to Endowment Fund-SHARE) for district grants; the remainder may be used for global grants or be donated to PolioPlus, Rotary Peace Centers, or another district.
In addition to SHARE, donors may direct their Annual Fund contributions directly to the World Fund or to one of the Foundation’s six areas of focus. Annual Fund contributions directed to an area of focus are credited toward a club’s annual giving goal and per capita giving calculations, but they do not factor into the District Designated Fund calculation. Likewise, these contributions are eligible for all Annual Fund recognition opportunities, including Every Rotarian, Every Year; Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member; Paul Harris Fellow; Paul Harris Society; Major Donor; and Arch Klumph Society. They also count toward all club recognition opportunities.
Contributions designated for areas of focus are not included in a district’s SHARE calculation and do not generate any increases in the amount of the District Designated Fund. Because Annual Fund-SHARE contributions are the primary source of funding for Foundation grants, SHARE-designated contributions from Every Rotarian, Every Year remain crucial and therefore are strongly encouraged.
 
POLIO MOVIE EVENT 2020
Movie this year is I Am Woman
 
 
 
A highlight each year for hundreds of Rotary clubs around Australia and New Zealand is the Polio Movie Event.  This year’s movie is I Am Woman, the inspiring story of Australian singer/songwriter, Helen Reddy, who shot to global stardom in the seventies.
Clubs will be able to run events during October and November.  In Australia, the movie is being streamed to homes on Stan and the only way to see it at the cinema will be through Rotary events. 
We are still working out the plans for World Polio Day being 24th October – we are hoping to show the selected movie ‘I am Woman’ in October at the Saraton.
