Well the world as we know is evolving rapidly to a place where we all have to adapt to new changes due to a deadly virus COVID-19.

Be safe....take care.....ring your friends......sms....facetime....whatsapp......lots of options open to us all.  Download the apps on your phone and have a little fun too.

Many people are facing tough times now and ahead - Please Be Kind....stay inside when you can.  Wash your hands and wash them again.

If anyone needs anything please let me know and I will try as hard as I can to assist.  The government social distancing rules are there to help slow this epidemic down.

The bulletin will be another place where we can share the news of our club.  Please feel free to send me your photos, jokes or just a quick article to place into the bulletin.

You may wish to have a look at some of the online learning that you have left for a "oneday'

I would like to share a little victory of mine a few weeks ago......Most of you know I have been in training for the biggest exercise goal of my life cycling the Grafton to Inverell.  As with all other events it has been cancelled however I did make it up the range from Jacadgery and it was an exhilarating day.

Grafton Midday Rotary proudly welcomed Jenny Ryder as a member to our club.  Jenny is a community warrior and is the owner of Anytime Fitness. We look forward to you contributing to our club with your valuable experience with Fitness and Health.
Wayne Koppel spoke with us recently on the 4th March.  He is a Fire Fighter and has been for over 10 years.  He is also a Life Coach and helps others with Personal Development.  Wayne talked about FEAR and how we can face FEAR - it can be paralysing or empowering.  The fear of change or because you were told something as a child and have that belief.  Don't limit your beliefs by allowing fear to stop you.

WhatsApp? A New Communication Tool For Us All To Use
Hello All Rotary Midday Club Members,

In consultation with Rob & Brian & Lee, I’m just touching base with you all in regards to another way for the Club to communicate over this period of isolation and also as a way for us to keep an eye on each other and your families.

As most of us have a smart phone these days, you can download an app called ‘WhatsApp’ onto your mobile phone. I will have your mobile number in my contact list soon and I can send you a link to join the WhatsApp ‘Grafton Midday Rotary’ group for you to start engaging with some of us who have already joined the group.

19-195256_whatsapp-icon-whatsapp-logo-jpg-download-hd-png
The free WhatsApp looks like this!

This is not compulsory and you don’t have to join, however is a great way to support each other and let everyone know what’s happening in member’s lives if you want us all to know.

Please remember, as this is a ‘group’ social media way of connecting with each other (and not your own personal Facebook/Instagram/Twitter account where you can post anything from advertising to lots of silly pictures), please be mindful of other Midday Club Members who have joined the group, in knowing that everyone in the group will see all photos and comments posted, some of which may not be appropriate to all. If this protocol is not followed by all who have joined the group, some members may then decide not to use this way to communicate, due to the possible high volume of uninteresting stuff being posted, eventually switching off or leaving the group, which is not the idea of starting the group in the first place.

Other than Clubrunner emails from Board Members, the ‘WhatsApp’ is just another way to keep Club members informed of how each of us are going and how we may help or support each other during these difficult, or ‘new way of living’ times.

Kind Regards
Greg Butcher

In the past few weeks I have, like all, been dealing with problem that come up facing COVID-19.
I have have left school and started all my classes online this will be my second week of online
classes.
I have found pros and cons to this but overall it's working fine for me.

With all this free time I have been trying to exercise by running 4-5 times a week. I usally run by
myself but I was able to drag Maynard and Jess along with me a few times. I have been also
trying to mix in more everyday activities such as biking and basketball.

I have also found my forte in games with my host family such as pub trivia and uno!

To conclude, the past few week have brought big changes but I'm finding my own and still having
heaps of fun.
Zoom meetings are the future
Good Afternoon All Midday Members,

Greg Butcher is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting, as a ‘Test Run’ for all Members for keeping in touch with video conferencing technology.

All you need to do is click on the link below to join and work out what you have to do to be able to watch & listen in!

Don’t worry about clicking a ‘wrong button’, click away and don’t click it again if you accidently lose your screen - just come back to this email and click the Link again to join.

There may be some pointers other Club Members may post by email in between now and tonight’s scheduled meeting, so keep checking your emails for any updates today from other members.

Don’t worry if you cannot connect, grab a drink and try again. There will be plenty of other opportunities to join in another ‘test meeting’ and to work with each other if having difficulties. I’m just learning all about Zoom today, so hopefully the link will work! Some others have had more experience than myself and are ‘ZOOMERS’!

The main buttons are your ‘start video’ and ‘mute/unmute microphone’, in which you should get a prompt to check your own settings when entering the meeting. I am using my iPhone ear buds plugged into my sound outlet on my laptop for it all to work (both listening and talking) as I don’t have a small headset yet.

Again, if something is not working on tonight’s meeting, try an ‘alcoholic drink’ by this time, and keep pushing buttons until something works  and of course, remember what you did when it does!

Hopefully I’ll see those of you who are available tonight!

Rotary monitors the coronavirus

Rotary is closely monitoring the pandemic of COVID-19, the illness caused by the novel coronavirus, and continuously assessing the potential impact on Rotary operations, events, and members.

Your health and safety are always our top priorities. Look below for information on Rotary activities that may be affected. We will update this page as new information becomes available.

In the near term, Rotary International recommends that districts and Rotary and Rotaract clubs meet virtually, cancel, or postpone meetings and events following the advice of national and local health officials.

Rotary encourages members and their families to take precautions to protect themselves from contracting the virus by: washing your hands often and thoroughly, putting distance between yourself and others if COVID-19 is spreading in your community, and staying home if you are sick.

Grant options to respond to COVID-19

As people of action, Rotary members want to find ways to respond to COVID-19, which is now a global pandemic, and to help people affected by it. The Rotary Foundation offers several options that Rotarians can use to help care for and protect people in their own communities and others around the world.

District grants

Districts can use district grant funds to support local activities, like purchasing thermometers, protective medical gear, or other items to donate to medical professionals who need them. Districts can also use contingency funds from an open district grant or repurpose previously planned activities as a COVID-19 response. As districts prepare to submit new district grant applications for 2020-21, we encourage you to designate funds for COVID-19 responses. As a one-time exception, the Foundation will allow expenses related to COVID-19 that were incurred since 15 March 2020 to be reimbursed through 2020-21 district grants.

Disaster Response Grants and Rotary’s Disaster Response Fund

Rotary’s disaster response grants provide a fast and effective way to respond to local events. The Rotary Foundation recently added COVID-19 projects to its list of eligible activities for these grants. Each district can apply for one grant (of up to $25,000) to address COVID-19, depending on the availability funds. Disaster response grants are funded by the Rotary Disaster Response Fund to help districts around the world respond to disasters. The fund accepts online contributions and DDF. Districts may designate that their DDF contributions to the Disaster Response Fund be used exclusively for COVID-19 grant activities. Cash contributions will be used for general disaster response, including response to COVID-19.

Global Grants

Global grants remain an excellent way to make a transformative impact in a community. If medical equipment is needed in order to respond effectively to COVID-19, global grants can help pay for these items. The Foundation is waiving the 30 percent foreign financing requirement for any new global grant that addresses COVID-19. Note that these grants still require both a host and international partner.

For additional information, contact your regional grants officer.
