ESIDENT'S RUMBLE

Hi everyone,

I hope you all had an enjoyable Week & Weekend with many activities taking place over the weekend. One of these events was our Book Sale. Peter & his team set up last Tuesday at the Criterion, and then after a slow attendance at the sale packed the residual books away again along with David Thompson taking a few trips to the Recycle Centre. Even though it wasn’t one of our best sales, a big thank you to Peter & his team for the organisation & efforts for the event for our community.

Other events included “Art in the Paddock” where I understand a number of our club attended, along with the over 50’s Master State Hockey tournament being played. Unfortunately Grafton didn’t make the finals, but a good few days of Hockey were enjoyed with minimal injury by your President (played 4 games & umpired 4 games!).

Last Wednesday’s meeting secretary Greg gave the meeting a summary of some key outcomes of our recent Board meeting. I also gave a summary over our proposed changes to our bylaws for our club to be able to induct Corporate membership into our Progressive club. I will be sending out a separate email with information about this soon so that everyone has a better understanding & time for comment / discussions.

Jenny H & Jeremy J have a small project to research a new, refreshed Polo shirt for our club, so we await in awe for some designs to be shown to the club. Our current design has been with us for a number of years now so time for a new refreshed club shirt.

Next Week’s meeting we have representatives along to speak of their Experience from the recent attendance of the Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA). A brief description is it is a Rotary District project designed to create an awareness of the role of the United Nations in mediating international issues. So come along and experience what our representatives can let us know about their experiences.

Once again if anyone has any suggestions of any donations that we might make from our current funds prior to June 30^th please discuss with myself.

GUEST SPEAKER THIS WEEK McAuley Catholic College representatives along to speak of their Experience from the recent attendance of the Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA).

DOUGHERTY VILLA MEN'S LUNCH

Brian Lane and I attended the monthly men’s luncheon at Dougherty Villa recently, hopefully giving the men something different by way of conversation and even getting them to recount some of their stories. With their permission I have included some shots of locals who we may identify.
Ernie Reilly, renowned as the fastest milkman in South Grafton.
John Barnier, an ex Rotarian from Grafton Club who was instrumental in the building of the gazebos in See park.
Brian Haines, a local identity whom I knew from Gerard’s days.
And other characters like ex Australian Navy, Bob, who reckons he is getting shorter every day.

BOOK SALE DONE AND DUSTED

The book sale kicked off on Wednesday Morning with a very small dribble of patron through the doors and unfortunately it did not improve over the next few days.

We were able to clean out a lot of old stock. 218 boxes of books were taken to the sale and only 108 were returned to our shed.

The committee will get together over the next few weeks and do a debrief on this last sale .

Calling for worthy Organisation

As we are getting closer toward the end of financial year,President Robert has asked if any member has any ideas on a worthy organisation that we maybe able to assist with a donation, let

him know ASAP please.

BBQ Market Square

The club has undertaken to run a BBQ for Jaca Queen candidate Hanna Craig for her Boot camp fundraiser in Market Square on the 20th June @ 7.00am

workers will be required names will be called for shortly.

CHRISTMAS IN JULY

Christmas in July has been confirmed as a Combined Rotary dinner on 24th July – at Harwood Hotel– more details to come.

JACARANDA FESTIVAL CARINGA BALL

Grafton Jacaranda Festival is around the corner and Mark would like to know who from Rotary would like tickets for the Caringa Ball?

The Caringa Ball will take place on Friday 29 October 2021, commencing at 6pm in Market Square. It will includes canapés, main and dessert. Entertainment will be performed by Yhan Leal and Vaudeville Smash. Coopers beer products, amazing wine and cocktails will be available via numerous cashless bars.

Tickets will be limited and will sell out fast. Tickets will be $100 plus booking fee. Please let me know how many tickets you will intend to purchase. Bookings will have to be made together to be able to be seated together. Payment required at a later date. We just need numbers by this FRIDAY.
