JOKE CORNER
A man in a hot air balloon realized he was lost. He reduced altitude and spotted a woman below. He descended a bit more and shouted, “Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don’t know where I am.”

The woman below replied, “You’re in a hot air balloon hovering approximately 30 feet above the ground. You’re between 59 and 60 degrees north latitude and between 107 and 108 degrees west longitude.”

“You must be an engineer,” said the balloonist.
“I am,” replied the woman, “How did you know?”

“Well,” answered the balloonist, “everything you told me is technically correct, but I’ve no idea what to make of your information, and the fact is I’m still lost. Frankly, you’ve not been much help at all. If anything, you’ve delayed my trip.”

The woman below responded, “You must be a politician”
“I am,” replied the balloonist, “but how did you know?”

“Well,” said the woman, “you don’t know where you are or where you’re going. You have risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise, which you’ve no idea how to keep, and you expect people beneath you to solve your problems.

The fact is you are in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but now, somehow, it’s my fault.”

BOB'S BANTER
A good turnout for Wednesday’s meeting considering it started with 15 and ended up with 23!

Theo will be off on his Australian safari this Friday for three weeks, something he has really been looking forward to. Bon Voyage Theo.

It was pleasing to welcome our visiting Rotarian Penni Hamilton-Smith from the Rotary Club of Mt Barker, South Australia, to our meeting. Penni will be giving us a three minute talk next week.

Zahli Stevens gave us a little background of herself and her reasons for wanting us to sponsor her in the upcoming Jacaranda Festival Queen quest. I feel this
could be a good Community Service project for the Club and I feel she could be a good ambassador for the Club and the Jacaranda Festival. If you haven’t already done so could you please respond to my email.

Our Junior Jacaranda Princess entrant, Miriam Taylor, is quite excited about the event and I am sure we will be able to give all the support she needs.

Am looking forward to a busy Saturday, see you next Wednesday.

Next weeks meeting on the 22nd May is cancelled in lieu of
Joint Meeting at Maclean Bowling Club 23rd May 2019

Mothers Day Hospital Auxillary Morning Tea
The morning tea function was a great success.

Weekend Full of Activities
The week started off with our contribution to manning the men’s health caravan at the Grafton show for the Friday. One of the more interesting points was a lady who accompanied her husband found that although he had a clean bill of health she was found to have diabetes.

Saturday saw our first Fun Ride from memorial park following the Grafton to Inverell bike classic. Although there were few participants the ride was a success with everyone saying they will be back next year. It was a lot of organising for Lee Taylor and her small committee, but I feel it was well worth the effort and laid the groundwork for next year’s event. It was also a good opportunity for Rotarians to enjoy some fellowship and enjoy breakfast at Toast afterwards.

Enjoyed a Sunday morning ride, organised by Sammy Lovejoy, stopping at all the historic sites around Grafton. Well attended and included a stop off at Peter McLennan’s to see his collection of historic cycles he has collected over the years. The Historic Tour map is available from council and is quite informative.

Lee was also responsible for the Saturday night fund raiser for Julie Holder at the GDSC, which was a resounding success. Well done Lee.

Our mission

The mission of The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.

What impact can one donation have?

  • For as little as 60 cents, a child can be protected from polio.
  • $50 can provide clean water to help fight waterborne illness.
  • $500 can launch an antibullying campaign and create a safe environment for children.
