PRESIDENT'S RUMBLE

Hello everyone,

I hope you are having a wonderful week.

Thank you for coming along on Wednesday to make our member forum a very informative session. Members were updated with major outcomes of the past two board meeting from Lee (VP), Herman (Projects), Leila (Youth), Peter (Foundation) and Mark T (Treasurer). In Jenny H’s absence I gave some updates on Club service. The board minutes from January are now available on Clubrunner if anyone would like to view any of them, and if you have any queries please contact the relevant director or Lee or myself.

AG Anne came along to assist in the induction of Rotary’s newest member & GMR’s 1^st new member for 21/22, Tony Flack. Tony is looking forward to his journey in our club & Rotary & we warmly welcome him to our club. A huge thank you again to AG Anne for giving her time to come along and be part of the induction and our meeting.

Mark B shared with us his “breaking news” that the Jacaranda Festival will go ahead this year! This is fantastic news for Grafton and he also asked for volunteers to assist throughout the carnival so if you can help contact Mark.

Raffles restart this Friday at Roches and we are able to run these raffles 3 out of 4 Friday’s. VP Lee & Jenny H have volunteered their time this Friday so if you can also go along to help them out would be appreciated.

If you haven’t already let Lee know if you are attending our social gathering at the Grafton Hotel on Saturday night. After lockdown and all of our cancellations it will be nice to do something that we can do, so come along & enjoy each other’s company in a relaxed environment.

As previously mentioned, you will be receiving an email shortly with information relating to changing our bylaws to allow for Corporate membership, so please keep an eye out for this email and a date will be set to vote on this amendment.

Rotary International has advised that the following clubs were successful applicants for District Grants in 2021/2022:

Ballina on Richmond ($4,000)

Domestic violence & awareness campaign

E-Club of NextGen ($1,500)

Supply of medical equipment to a primary health care centre in a remote area

Fassifern Valley ($3,000)

Agricultural field day promoting local businesses & service providers

Lismore ($2,430)

Upgrade hazardous flooring in a soup kitchen & transitional housing organisation for marginalised men operated by volunteers

Lismore West ($5,000)

Education campaign advocating benefits & use of safety lighting in homes of the elderly

Maclean ($5,000)

Enhancement & beautification of a major park to make it more usable & educational

Maclean ($2,500)

Restoration & enhancement of the local Rotary lookout to benefit both tourists & the local community

Maclean ($2,500)

Supply a feed silo, feed and stock to the Maclean High School

Mt Warning AM ($3,600)

Purchase & install good quality defibrillators in high need areas in the community & implement worker & community education

Warwick Sunrise ($5,555)

Provide sun protection for young children, who need occupational & speech therapy, and their mothers whilst using outdoor learning spaces

Yamba ($4,000)

Renovate & rejuvenate the steps on the Rotary walking track

Rotary Foundation at Work

Australian and USA clubs and districts funded the A$200,000 purchase of medical equipment to set up a diagnosis and dialysis facility in the far northwest of South Australia

Pukatja is an extremely remote indigenous community in South Australia. It experiences kidney disease at a rate fifteen times higher than the national average.

With the nearest treatment facility about 1,000km away, dialysis entails relocation, far away from the patient’s support network of family and community – a devastating blow, especially for someone already suffering the trauma of serious illness.

Delivering treatment closer to home results in dramatically better health outcomes, reduced economic and community impacts and reduced need for ancillary services, such as social workers and interpreters.

The Rotary Club of Waikerie, along with numerous Clubs and Districts, from Australia and the USA, funded the A$200,000 purchase of the medical equipment to set up a dialysis facility in the far northwest of the state. They partnered with the WDNWPT Aboriginal Community. The Rotary Foundation provided A$70,000 in Global Grant funding..
