JOKE CORNER

One day an Irishman, who had been stranded on a deserted island  for over 10 years, saw a speck on the horizon.
He thought to himself: "It's certainly not a ship."
As the speck got closer and closer, he began to rule out even the   possibilities of a small boat or a raft.

Suddenly there strode from the surf a figure clad in a black wet suit.   Putting aside the scuba tanks and mask and zipping down the top of  the wet suit stood a drop-dead gorgeous blonde!

She walked up to the stunned Irishman and said to   him: "Tell me, how long has it been since you've had a good cigar?"
"Ten years," replied the amazed Irishman.

With that, she reached over and unzipped a waterproof pocket on the left sleeve of her wet suit and pulled out a fresh package of cigars and a lighter.

He took a cigar, slowly lit it, and took a long drag.
"Faith and begorrah," said the castaway "that is so good! I'd almost forgotten how great a smoke can be!"

"And how long has it been since you've had a drop of good Bushmill's  Irish Whiskey?" asked the blonde.
Trembling, the castaway replied: "Ten years."
Hearing that, the blonde reached over to her right sleeve, unzipped a pocket there and removed a flask and handed it to him.

He opened the flask and took a long drink. "Tis nectar of the gods!" shouted the Irishman. "Tis truly fantastic!!!"
At this point the gorgeous blonde started to slowly unzip the long front of her wet suit, right down the middle. She looked at the trembling man and asked: "And how long has it been since you played around?"

With tears in his eyes, the Irishman fell to his knees and sobbed: "For the love of God, don’t tell me you’ve got golf clubs in there as well!”

Our beloved President Robert Blanchard has taken a well deserved break and is currently on holidays.  Entrusting me to step up as Vice President – I was a bit nervous and started to prepare the agenda and realised how much we had to get through…..I called upon our trusty Sergeant Mark Thompson to help with the timing of the meeting.  All went well and I got through my 1st meeting successfully.  What a fantastic club we have where everyone is so understanding and so willing to help younger club members participate in Rotary.
A group of helpers assisted with the First 2000 day working bee by putting furniture together  - Leonie Staples was very grateful for our contribution – this is a very worthy program that I would love to see success in the Clarence Valley.
The Defibrillator project for South Grafton is processing well – Bendigo Bank have approved the grant Bob Booth applied for to install 3 defibs.  The Bendigo Bank are very supportive have kindly agreed to purchase the 1st unit to be installed at Newmans Newsagency with their funds as we do not have enough funds raised for the other half – total cost is $6400.00.  The board agreed that all fund raising from now be set aside for ongoing Defibrillator project within the Grafton community.
WELL DONE BOB!
We have a proposed date the ‘A Musical Feast” at the Cathedral on 10th April 2021 – so get your diaries out and pencil in – all will depend on the Covid-19 regulations closer to the time.  The funds raised from this event will go to the organ restoration at the Christ Church Cathedral and PCYC.
Peter Robinson has applied for grant money from the Volunteer Grants that are open for new shelving for the booksale project.  Thanks for preparing this and all your hard work that goes into this fundraising event that unfortunately has been postponed due to Covid – we are looking at other avenues to get some books into the community.
Eftpos machine has been set up by our Treasurer Johannes – and was tested out at the Wine and Dine night at Roches on Friday.  You may pay your fees or Happy Dollars this way – it can be used at all our events too.  Well done Johannes!
Corporate membership amendments to our by-laws is underway – a wonderful way to open options for businesses to join Rotary.  Thanks Brian for researching this – Well Done!
The social corporate event held on Friday night was a super success where everyone had a fantastic night – A HUGE THANKS TO ALL OUR MEMBERS FOR ATTENDING AND ALL YOUR HELP TO MAKE SURE IT WENT WELL.  Mick and Sharon have fully supported our club – many thanks to them for organising Ian from Taylors Wines and their generous donation of the magnum of wine.
Cluster Muster Rotary training is scheduled for 17 October 2020 at Kingscliff – we are just waiting for confirmations from Anne Farrell our Assistant District Governor.
Greg Butcher has many good ideas for the celebrations of 100 of Rotary in Australia – Greg cannot make the meetings due to Covid and risk to his clients – however we discussed some of the fund raising ideas and came up with a few more.   Our club is capable of delivering projects that will benefit our community for many years to come – Gregs ideas are attached for you to think about as your feedback is very valuable to us – you may want to ‘take the reins’ on one of the projects or have something in mind…….many hands make light work.
Leila is seeking assistance for donations of clean cotton sheets, towels and small individual hand soaps – if you are Spring Cleaning the linen press we would love your donations.
Lastly I am so honoured to be entrusted with leadership duties and am so excited to start planning and commencing some big projects over the 2 years.  Have a great week and hopefully you can make it to our meetings that are now back on at Roches in the Captains Room 1pm Wednesdays.

Our 1st social gathering for quite some time due to Covid. However under the corporate booking rules we were able to have a quaint gathering of Rotarians and some of their friends. Limited to 44 people everyone commented on how much fun they had.
Roches have been so supportive with Mick and Sharon organising their Taylors Wine rep Ian to host a wine tasting and dining experience.
Roches exceeded our expectations with a gourmet 4 course degustation.
There were smiles all around and I would like to Thank everyone for all their support.
It wont be long before we organise a similar event.

Suggested Rotary Centenary Projects (May 2020).
Production of 100-150 Bottles of specially labelled Port
Option 1:
Correspondence from
Robert Channon Wines (Granite Belt Stanthorpe)
'The Verdelho'
07 4683 3260"
As an indication, a small run of say 100 ‘special labels’ will probably cost in the order of $1 each. Labels get cheaper as you order more of them. In the end it probably comes back to how many bottles or half bottles you think we might sell. If not the port, perhaps another wine would be of interest. Robert Channon Wines can get special labels made or put on directly and can be put in touch with their label maker to help with our design.
They don't have any unlabelled 750ml bottles left. They could do half bottles 375ml for you at $11 + gst which would probably be ok for us if you were selling at $24-25 a bottle. This would include applying the labels. We would have to work out delivery cost or could pick up.
The wine is bottled and ready - they just haven't released it yet because their cellar door is closed.
The design of the label is pretty much up tous. There is some information that you have put on the label such as volume, alcohol, standard drinks etc but that is only text.
We could perhaps adapt our label if you wanted to. Otherwise you could create your own entirely. They can put us in touch with their local label maker who does short runs of labels if it would assist.
*Greg’s RRP approximatley $25.00 (Costing $13.10 each bottle to buy, making $11.90 each bottle).
Outlay $13.10 x 150 = $1,965. Profit after costs $11.90 x 150 = $1,785
Pros: Cheaper to buy; supporting a winery closer to Grafton.
Cons: Smaller bottle, not as attractive to buy for the for price (may have bottle left over).
Option: 2
Correspondence from
Stanton & Killeen (Rutherglen Victoria)
The lowest they can do their Rutherglen Ruby (500ml) is $17.67 (not inc GST) per bottle.
It would be and extra $1.00 to supply the labels. They would apply the labels. There are some legalities that need to be included on the label (Volume, Alcohol Percentage, Std Drinks, Preservatives Added, “Produced by” etc).
*Greg’s RRP approximatley $30.00 (Costing $20.45 to buy and making $9.55 each bottle).
Pros: Bigger & more attractive size bottle, looking more exclusive - giving a ‘have to purchase’ ploy!
Cons: More expensive; not supporting local wineries in our vacinity.
Outlay $20.45 x 150 = $3,067.50. Profit after costs $9.55 x 150 = $1,432.50
Possible Scenario: If producing 150 Botttles to sell, we’d probably get rid of at least 50 bottles from within the Club, leaving 100 to sell during the year. They could be sold at Roches for a 50/50 split? Birthdays, Christmas parties other Rotary Celebrations would probbaly get rid of them all through out the year
