We have just had a wonderful few days with the Brazil RFE team under the amazing leadership of Odi. We picked up the team from Casino last Tuesday and enjoyed a fellowship tea at our place for all the team and hosts on arrival, which was a great way to get to know each other and put names to faces. On Wednesday morning we met at Lanbruk Gunyah (the olive farm) for a delicious morning tea of coffee and home made sponge cake and a wander around the museum after enjoying some taste testing of olive based dips. We had a little drive around Grafton and checked out the kangaroos up on the hill before coming together for lunch at Roches with our club. Wednesday afternoon they had some free time for shopping and coffee before attending a combined Rotary club meeting at the GDSC where the Brazilian team did an excellent presentation about their district. Thursday saw us head down to Yamba and enjoy a ferry ride over to Iluka where we had lunch at the pub. It was quite cool and windy so we didn’t enjoy as much sight seeing as we would have liked. Thursday evening was spent with their host families and then on Friday we journeyed up to New Italy for a light lunch and handover to Lismore club. I would like to sincerely thank Des & Jenny, Camellia, Liza & Mark as well as Richard & Heather Pryor and Wendy & Ian Gibbs from Grafton Club for hosting the team. We all thoroughly enjoyed the time they spent with us and thanks to the app ‘SayHi’, the language barrier was easily overcome. Thanks also to those were available to ferry them around whilst they were here. There are two exchanges next year to Pennsylvania (Sept) & Arizona (Oct/Nov) and Wendy Scarlett is looking for more willing participants to be part of those teams. I would urge anyone who has not been a part of a Friendship Exchange to give it some consideration, it is a wonderful experience. You won’t regret it. |
