JOKE CORNER

” An elderly couple was celebrating their sixtieth anniversary.

The couple had married as childhood sweethearts and had moved back to their old neighbourhood after they retired. Holding hands, they walked back
to their old school. It was not locked, so they entered, and found the old
desk they'd shared, where Jerry had carved I love you, Sally.

On their way back home, a bag of money fell out of an armoured car,
practically landing at their feet. Sally quickly picked it up and, not sure
what to do with it, they took it home. There, she counted the money –
fifty thousand dollars!
Jerry said, “We've got to give it back.”
Sally said, “Finders keepers.” She put the money back in the bag and hid it in their attic.

The next day, two police officers were canvassing the neighbourhood
looking for the money, and knocked on their door. “Pardon me, did either
of you find a bag that fell out of an armoured car yesterday?”

Sally said, “No.”
Jerry said, “She's lying. She hid it up in the attic.”
Sally said, “Don't believe him, he's getting senile.”

The agents turned to Jerry and began to question him.
One said: “Tell us the story from the beginning.”
Jerry said, “Well, when Sally and I were walking home from school yesterday” .......

The first police officer turned to his partner and said,” We’re outta here!”

ESIDENT'S RUMBLE

Hello everyone,

I hope you all have had a good week & weekend.

It is nice to see a bit more normality in our community with the running of the Grafton Show this week. I drove past on Friday night on my way to umpire Hockey & witnessed a line-up of ear 100 metres waiting to enter the ticket booth at the showgrounds. Obviously the community missed events like this and great to see good attendance.

This week’s meeting we were fortunate to be presented with a great presentation from Mark Thompson on Polio. Mark had done a lot of research on this world disease bringing us right from the start to where it is to now and most importantly how Rotary have been avital part in immunisation & radication of this disease. Our group learned a lot and Mark brought us up to speed on some history that we never new. I certainly learned something in what the term meant “you wouldn’t work in an Iron lung”! I had heard this term many times over the years but never really knew the real meaning of this was. Thank you Mark for a great presentation on your 10 minute talk about something you knew nothing about.

On Saturday a group of 25 of us in 8 cars explored the beautiful sights of the Old Glen Innes Road. What a wonderful day this trip was thanks to the organisation of Don & Richard. Many great sights were explored with great company taking in the sensational scenery. We are looking forward to the next social day trip to be organised. Than you to everyone for the day.

This Thursday we have our Board meeting so if you would like anything discussed please let Greg, myself or any member of our board before Thursday.

LAST WEEK GUEST SPEAKER

Our guest speaker was our own Mark Thompson who spoke on something he know nothing about a few weeks ago.

Mark pick POLIO and researched and presented on this subject.

Polio Update

Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years. Our goal of ridding the world of this disease is closer than ever.

As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we've reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent since our first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979.

Rotary members have contributed more than $2.1 billion and countless volunteer hours to protect nearly 3 billion children in 122 countries from this paralyzing disease. Rotary’s advocacy efforts have played a role in decisions by governments to contribute more than $10 billion to the effort.

Today, polio remains endemic only in Afghanistan and Pakistan. But it’s crucial to continue working to keep other countries polio-free. If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.

Dalmorton Road Trip

Saturday 24^th April – Saw 8 vehicles set out on a roads trip to Dalmorton and beyond.

After a briefing by Richard we left Waterview Heights for a short drive to Bawden Bridge for our first stop to inspect the bridge, then onto view Chambigne Post Office, St Lukes Church and OBX Post Office plus a few

kms up the road we looked at the remains of the "Estrelda" Coaching Station .

A stop was made at Buccurumbi causeway to inspect what remains of the bridge built 1875 and destroyed by a massive flood in 1947 .

Beyond this point we travel on some of the (original coach road and pot holes or so it felt like) for a look at the historic ghost town Dalmorton and Morning tea stop.

Exploring of the old butcher shop , house and Police station remains and a study of the large National Parks sign with the map and overview of the valley's history with a walk around the area it was back on the road to our next stop Newton Boyd World War 1 memorial.

It was then decided to go on and have lunch by the side of the Mann river at Wytallaba. Kathy Butcher cooling off after lunch.

A very enjoyable day was had by all , Thank you to Don and Richard for all your work to make this such a great day.
