Guest speaker …
John  introduced our District Governor Graham Jull from the Rotary Club of Te Awamutu.
Graham began his address by commenting on the beautiful HB day, welcoming our International Exchange Student Mathis, and telling us that when his Club came to Mike Smith’s Conference in Napier, they all went on a bike ride along our Pathways. He also thanked AG Ann Clarke for her work and for attending all the Napier meetings with him.
As Governor, 2 years training are expected of one before taking on the role. For Graham, culminating in being hosted in Orlando Florida by the clubs there, before attending the International  Assembly held in San Diego. There he spent a week with all the other DG Elects from around the World (537 of them), the International President, his Directors, his Committee Chairs, the General Secretary and his 800 staff.
Graham explained why he joined Rotary; the 4 Way Test, Objects, The Focus, the Avenues of Service.
He is a fan of the New Mission Statement; Good people, having fun and  great fellowship, doing good in the world.
He recalled 2 shake-ups that Rotary had experienced; 4 May 1987 Women were able to join Rotary and in 2016 Council said Rotary Clubs could be run as the members wanted to run them.
There are 51 Clubs in District 9930 having meetings at differing times of the day.
Rotary has been going for 113 year and in 2021 we will have had 100 years of Rotary in NZ. In 2021 what will we look like?  To celebrate that milestone, Rotary will combine with UNICEF to vaccinate  100,000 children in the Pacific, and run a project in Nepal.
Graham reminded us of …
  • The monthly themes Rotary sets.
  • Funding of the Rotary Foundation (D9930 was 3rdin the world for donations in the last year)
  • To ‘Be the Inspiration’
  • To keep our website relevant with events and goals(and record Volunteer Hours)
  • World Polio Day 24 October
Rotary has 2 forthcoming Conferences for us to attend, the World Conference in Hamburg, and our District Conference in Hamilton, March 15-17, $240.00.
In conclusion Graham advised we must … engage/be relevant/effective/visible/good people doing good work/understand change/adapt as Rotary Must Be relevant!
In conclusion, Graham thanked us for hosting him and Elizabeth.

The talk was followed with questions and comments from Members and a vote of thanks, and presentation of our Rotary Pathway Coin and thank you card, was presented by President Katherine.

An invitation was extended to club Members to meet at the Village kitchen for coffee and a chat after the meeting.

In closing …
Katherine read the next week’s duties and thanked all the guests.
