CLUB QUIZ NIGHT  to benefit the ShelterBox appeal for on-going assistance toward the humanitarian crisis in UKRAINE

The Set Up…
East Pier, the home of Ahuriri Sunrise, was the venue for our major fundraiser to contribute toward the humanitarian aid in Ukraine. The most obvious conduit for the money raised being Shelter Box, the organisation having established itself as being able to supply targeted aid to be of the most beneficial to specific need.
Members and guest quiz teams gathered in the East Pier dining room for dinner, whilst others set up the quiz room in anticipation of an influx of noisy Rotarians ready to buy raffle tickets and pay entry fees.
The room looked great and everyone knew Rotary and ShelterBox was what  it was all about!
Getting Ready to start …
There were 18 teams to move in to our Quiz Room at East Pear and every single person had to pass first the bar and then the raffle sellers and money collectors before entering.
Needless to say, it took a while to get us all in and settled.
The Quiz, Raffle and Auction …
Quiz Master for the night was Dave Halstead, MD and part owner of East Pier, who promptly told us he had never been a Quiz Master before. But, he was doing this as his contribution toward our Ukraine appeal.
Thank you Dave and assistant Bee. Very much appreciated … and … your were a great Quiz master (I’m sure we will ask you for a repeat performance).
We had 10 rounds of questions interspersed with games of Heads and  Tails.
There was a prize for the Best Dressed Team going to Greenmeadows, the Best Team Name going to Rotary Hoes, and of course the Heads and Tails winners.

First  Prize in the Quiz went to Linda’s team the Rotary Hoes winning a wonderful gift basket.  Second prize went to Lyndal’s team Box of goodness, and Third Prize to team Kindergarten Prodigies.

There were 3 auctions the auctioneer being Malcolm Cox. Phil Crombie successfully bid for a CYCOS cycling shirt, Adrienne Williams a signed Magpie rugby shirt and Dave Halstead a Takaro Trails cycle hire. The auction raised $520. Thank you Malcolm, Adrienne and Dave.

Our raffle sellers Lucy Swinburn, Lyndal Johansen, and Nicola Brown managed to sell winning tickets to Robin Exton (First prize dinner and accommodation at East Pier), Malcom Cox (Second prize Hunger Monger Voucher), Katie Durbin (Third prize Beauty Secrets Voucher) and Karl Paterson (Fourth  prize Thirsty Whale voucher).

All-in-all, $4060 was raised to give Shelter Box toward the Ukraine humanitarian aid.

Our thanks go to; Linda Peterson and Andy Meyer for organising the event; To their team of helpers (various in number); To Dave and East Pier.
