2018 Annual Chinese New Year
On Friday, February 2nd, almost 200 Rotarians from Calgary South, Calgary and Okotoks Clubs celebrated the upcoming Chinese New Year at the Regency Palace.
The group welcomed in The Year of the Dog with a traditional Lion Dance performance that always brings the colour and pageantry of China to the event. The program emceed by Corinne Wilkinson also included the traditional songs sung by the talented Annie Wu to the delight our host Larry Kwong  and the beautiful music of the Ghuzeng (the Chinese Harp) played by Sylvia Lee.
The food, which kept on coming all throughout the evening, was a delicious selection of traditional and well recognized favourites that by the smiles all around the room was very much enjoyed by all.
Each guest was given a traditional red packet to take home for good luck. The Red packet is a red envelope with money in it, which in China ranges from one to a few thousand Chinese Yuan. It is believed that the money in the red packet will suppress the evil from the children, keep them healthy, and give them a long life. Apparently giving it away, like a penny, is the luck portion!
An Excellent evening of celebration with old and new friends and to honour Larry Kwong’s many contributions to our Club and city.
