ROTARY INTERNATIONAL: POLIO PLUS

Marlene and Dan Doherty Bio Marlene is a native Calgarian who recently retired after 35 years of teaching K-9 Physical Education. Marlene is an active volunteer with Inn From The Cold, and Calgary Food Bank. She is an elder at her church, Convener of the Missions Committee. Marlene has partnered and participated with Dan on eleven trips to Mexico to build homes. Marlene is Past President of the Rotary Anne’s, The Junior League of Calgary and was honored by the Health and Physical Education & Health Council for Distinguished Service to Health and Physical Education in Alberta. In November 2014 Marlene and daughter Kayla participated in the NID in Ethiopia and Uganda. It was a life changing experience and as a result she has become a Rotarian, sponsored a young girl inUganda through World Vision, set up a scholarship fund for a student in Gulu. She returned to Africa with Dan and continues to advocate for the people of Gulu Uganda. Marlene is currently the Director of Service & Grants for the Rotary Club or Calgary West. Dan Doherty is past President of Calgary West Rotary, where he has been an active member for over 30 years. Dan was the District Chair for the District New Generations in Action Committee. Dan has a passion for advocating for and empowering Youth especially those without a voice. Currently Dan is very engaged with students at Tsuu Tina High School, as well as the Aboriginal program at the Boys and Girls Club. He is the past Chair of Hull Child and Family Services, Accessible Housing, and the Calgary Rotary Clubs Foundation. Dan has been on twelve Mexico Home building trips and is currently organizing the 13th Homes of Hope trip in March 2017 alongside his Rotarian wife Marlene. Recently having returned from a Polio NID in Ethiopia and mission work in Uganda Dan is reinvigorated in the Rotary Polio eradication fight. Dan was recently awarded the Distinguished “Service Above Self Award”, the highest tribute awarded in the Rotary World. Dan is the DGN District 5360 for 2018/2019.

ENERGY EAST PIPELINE PRESENTATION

John Van der Put: Vice-President, Energy East Stakeholder Safety and Emergency Response As Vice-President, Stakeholder Safety and Emergency Response for the Energy East Pipeline Project, John Van der Put is responsible for effective communication and external stakeholder buy-in of TransCanada’s safety and emergency response practices and processes. Prior to focusing in this area, Mr. Van der Put provided leadership for general stakeholder efforts on Energy East, particularly in Quebec and New Brunswick. Prior to joining the Energy East Development team, Mr. Van der Put was Vice-President, Strategy and Gas Pipeline Projects and was responsible for strategic planning, new projects development, and governance of external communication for TransCanada’s gas pipelines business unit. Mr. Van der Put joined NOVA Gas Transmission in 1990 as an engineer in the company’s pipeline system design department. He continued on with TransCanada after NOVA and TransCanada merged in 1998, holding several leadership positions in the areas of pipeline design, engineering, field operations, business development, and commercial operations. One of the highlights of Mr. Van der Put’s career at TransCanada was his role as Operations Manager for the Gas Andes and Gas Pacifico pipelines in Argentina and Chile. Another key accomplishment was securing regulatory approval for an LNG import terminal on the St. Lawrence River in Québec. Prior to joining TransCanada, Mr. Van der Put was with Exxon Company U.S.A.’s Production Department where he was based first in Thousand Oaks, California and then in Houston, Texas. While with Exxon, he was responsible for managing the company’s oil and gas production interests on the North Slope of Alaska. One of his significant achievements in this role was the development of a new oil field with production of 100,000 barrels per day. Mr. Van der Put is currently a member of the Governing Council for the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta and is also Vice-Chair of the Engineering Research Advisory Board at the University of Calgary. During his career, he has devoted a significant amount of his time and energy to organizations that focus on human development and technological advancement. He has served on the Governing Council of Athabasca University as well as the Workforce Development Committee of the Construction Owners Association of Alberta. Mr. Van der Put received a Chemical Engineering degree from Rice University in Houston. He also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Houston, and is a registered Professional Engineer in Alberta and Texas. |

Charlene has been on a mission to increase information flow, response times, share branded image of Rotary, increase productivity, define process and ease transition for members.
