Please join the members of the Rotary Club of Calgary Sarcee as we host our 13th Annual “Art from the Heart” Dinner and Art Auction on May 6, 2011.
For twelve years, “Art from the Heart” has been Calgary’s premier charity art auction, with original works contributed each year by more than 45 talented local and Alberta artists. We would like to especially thank the ten artists who have contributed art in each of the past twelve events. Click here for their names.
The beneficiary of this year’s fundraiser will be The Brenda Strafford Centre for the Prevention of Domestic Violence. The net proceeds will be used to help create the children’s indoor and outdoor play areas in the new Shelter. Click here for information on the Centre’s role in providing safe shelter, programs and services for women and their children.
This year we are grateful and excited to have two very prominent Honorary Co-Chairs – Alberta’s former Justice Minister, MLA Alison Redford and Calgary’s Chief of Police, Rick Hanson.
MLA Redford: “Healthy and violence-free families are essential in building safe communities. Family violence can have long-term emotional and psychological consequences for children and youth, and can make them vulnerable to other problems, including addictions, mental health issues and criminal activities. Keeping our communities safe includes working to decrease family violence and freeing Alberta families from this devastating crime.”
Chief Hanson: “Tackling domestic conflict is a priority for the Calgary Police Service. Over the years, we’ve dedicated many resources and partnered with many great agencies and programs to help deal with the issue. Traditionally, many people have seen domestic conflict as a topic best left behind closed doors. Although this trend is shifting, we all need to work together as a community to get people to be more comfortable talking about the issue and encouraging them to seek help when they need to. Events such as ‘Art from the Heart’ not only help raise awareness of the issue, but they also generate much-needed funds to support those affected by domestic conflict.”
Generously volunteering his services this year is our auctioneer - Frank Hall of Hall’s Appraisals. We are very pleased to have had Frank’s commitment to our fundraiser for each of the past twelve years.
As in previous years, you can start bidding on a unique selection of Silent Auction items during the Cocktail Hour, which begins at 6:00 pm. The exciting Live Art Auction follows a served Gourmet Dinner and the always fun “Balloon Burst”. Balloons will be available for purchase at $20 each. Don’t be disappointed – please bring cash, as there are no bank machines on the premises.
“Art from the Heart 2011” promises to be another great evening of fun, fantastic art and fellowship, with proceeds going towards a most important cause – the Prevention of Domestic Violence.
