Those of us who had the pleasure of attending our club meeting on Tuesday October 8 were treated to so many great presentations and impactful stories.
We celebrated birthdays as usual. However, Bob Junker is celebrating his 101st birthday! And he still comes to Rotary meetings! Happy birthday to Bruce Fenwick and Sid Mark.
Rotary Remembers

In 2012, the Calgary Rotary Presidents organized the first Rotary Remembers to bring all the clubs in Calgary together to honour our Rotary Veterans. Over the years Rotary Remembers has grown to become a well received all clubs event. Rotary Remembers 2024 is scheduled for Monday, November 11 at 10:30 at the Carriage House Inn. Tickets for the event are $50 which includes lunch after the event. Click here to view the details and purchase your ticket ($55).
SIS Mentor Summit October 19th

Our next Mentor Summit is on October 19th at Marmie’s House (Youth Centre of Calgary- Forest Lawn) and we would love to have you join us. We will be meeting from 10:30-1:00pm and will hear program updates, a presentation from the Distress Centre on Youth Mental Health, and enjoy lunch together. The Lou MacEachern Fund – Quiet & Patient

In 2006, Lou MacEachern created a fund with an initial donation of $1,000,000 to support the education and development of youth and young adults. Since then, our Club has received $830,000 in distributions from the Lou MacEachern Fund and the Fund has grown to $1,770.000.
Long time Rotarian Lorne Larsen and Lou worked together over the past 18 years to ensure the funds entrusted to our Club were used wisely, and now Lou has asked Small Donations to carry on this mission. When Small Donations spoke with Lou and his son Grant MacEachern (also a Rotarian), they pointed out that student funding should not always be focused on the "best" student; it should be focused on the student with financial need who has the intangible grit and determination that is so necessary in life.
Quietly and patiently, Lou is making a real difference in our community. How have the funds been used? You’ll be hearing more about this in the months ahead. But last year for example, some of the funds were used for the YMAP Lou MacEachern Rotary Scholarships that funded post-secondary education for six students in the YMCA Achievement Program. Host Hospitality evening Monday June 23 – clubs throughout the District are choosing whether to host groups of Convention attendees in individual homes or to welcome a group of attendees to a special Club event. All these events will happen on that Monday evening. Stay tuned to learn more about our Club’s plans. Mark that date in your calendar now!
The COG, the electronic newsletter informing our members of our club's activities and interesting articles, is published approximately every 2 weeks, usually (but not always) the week when we do not have an inperson club meeting. We'd love to send it weekly but it takes about 6 hours to put together so every other week will have to do.
If you'd like to have us publish an article or have an idea about what we should be publishing, please forward your ideas to Manon or Diane by the FRIDAY before the Tuesday publication date.
