President Rick shared the following announcements with the club.
We created our lunchbox or Lunchbucket COVID-19 response fund in response to a challenge from Peter McKean, who heard we were asking club members to donate their savings from not attending our Tuesday meetings at the Palliser. As of today, our club members have contributed just over $27,000, which means our Lunchbucket fund has $54,000, so we are doing well. We need another $23,000 from members to reach our fundraising target.
Larry Shelley and I have challenged all the past presidents to match our contributions, and we both put in $5,000. We believe in this enough to do that, so past presidents get your wallets out. The money we raise goes to Calgary’s COVID-19 Response, a joint venture between the City of Calgary and other agencies, managed by the United Way. Refer to our website if you want more detail on the charities supported, and you want to donate to the Lunchbucket Challenge. If you prefer, you can reach out to Jo-Ann by email or phone, and she can give you a hand.
Additionally, the District 5360 Conference takes place on June 6th, and this will be a virtual conference, delivered through Zoom.
Eric Bennett reintroduced club member Bill Hamilton who completed all the items on the new member checklist and had the “red dot” removed from his name badge.
Today, I am pleased to reintroduce you to Bill Hamilton, partner with Ernst & Young LLP s Private Client Services Group. In keeping with his interest in business and community leadership, Bill has joined the board as our incoming Treasurer, and I would like to say thank you to Bill for taking this on. It was a pleasure to be your mentor, and I am always here if you need me.
Eric then asked Bill to share his experiences as a new member, and his activities as a full club member.
Thanks very much, President-elect Eric. I am pleased to be here today. My name is Bill Hamilton, and I am a CPA with Ernst & Young. I am from Ontario, and I have worked in Toronto, Vancouver, and Edmonton, and I was a Rotarian for thirteen years while I was in Edmonton. When I moved to Calgary, I decided to take a little break from Rotary, but all along felt I wanted to get back.
I am looking forward to being in Rotary again, getting to knowing all of you, and working with the board for the next couple of years. So, thank you very much for having me, and I look forward to meeting all of you.
