"I am married with two teenagers, two rescue dogs, a colorful tank of fish and a lizard. While things look and sound fairly cookie-cutter, I am also a care giver to both my 18 year old daughter and now my husband who both live with invisible disease and have special and changing needs.
I share this openly because I want to emphasize how it is both through my role on the Donor Relations team at Calgary Foundation AND my involvement with Rotary that truly lift me up and keep me going.
In my career and personal life, I thrive as a connector:
connecting people to the causes they care deeply about
connecting people in the community to the resources they can get help from
connecting directly with charitable organizations to learn about their funding needs then circling back to donors to convey those needs so they can make an impact that is most meaningful to them.
These are very fulfilling aspects of my life as it helps me exercise gratitude, the key to happiness.
This past year through Rotary I have joined the Major Donations Committee to help assess charitable organization funding applications. This then led to playing a small role on the Strategic Granting Task Force which you will all soon learn more about in the coming few months. I have also been invited to the New Member Advisory Committee task force table to share constructive insights about my experience as a new member thus far.
But what really fills my cup are the community service opportunities; bringing my kids to Murdoch Manor to serve a meal to those less fortunate, helping at the Big Book Sale, lending a hand at the SIS golf tournament and, most recently, becoming one of Santa’s elves through the Rotary Christmas Hamper program.

Arthur's Adventures Continue

Our Rotary Exchange Student, Arthur Steque, is taking on our culture in big strides. He has hit the ski slopes with Manon and Kurt and begins his lessons at Mt Norquay on November 24. Way to go Arthur!

The Time is NOW to Support Christmas Hampers

It is that time of year when our great Rotary Club tries in our own small way to brighten, even if only for a moment, the Christmas season for a hundred (or more) families from the schools we support.
I much prefer to make this appeal in person, but the next in-person meeting is not until November 28th, and the work begins now.
Our goal is Two Hundred donations of $300.00 each! This will provide a Christmas Hamper with food cards, real gifts, books and Teddy Bears valued at about $500.00 each. This also allows us to support families with a few more kids!!
Please reach down, find that $300.00, send a cheque to the Rotary Club of Calgary, or e-transfer your funds. Either way, you’ll receive a receipt and you will help our Club carry on this very special community program.

Our WCS committee approved a investment of USD5,000 in a project run by the Rotary Club of Edmonton Riverview. Like many projects our club sponsors, it was a personal connection that brought this project to our attention. This project saw a team of Edmonton cataract surgeons travel to Ecuador. Guess how many surgeries they completed in a week?
