On Tuesday November 26 club members met for another wonderful club meeting at the Palliser. We were warmly welcomed by such a beautiful lobby magnificently decorated for the Christmas season. The meeting was amazing with so many guests and great information for all.
Fourteen Rotarians & family battled the crazy traffic and snow to serve dinner at Murdoch Manor on Thursday Nov 28. We served chicken from Popey’s for a change, with a healthy helping of a nice side salad. Ice cream with toppings (chocolate and caramel) was greatly appreciated by all. The DG played great tunes and everyone was thrilled to enjoy a meal together.
At the heart of all we do as Rotarians is the outcome of promoting and creating peace. We do it all kinds of ways through supporting projects that provide basic needs both here in our own back yard and internationally.
As Rotarians, we remind the world of this goal of Peace by erecting Peace polls. Watch for them as you travel the world.
The latest one in our district is in Waterton. Did you know that Waterton-Glacier was the first international Peace Park in the world? Indeed you can learn more about the park here
Mark Your Calendars: Big Book Sale Dates Announced

Whether you are in Calgary, Mexico, Thailand or any other part of the planet, it is time to mark your calendars for the 2025 Big Book Sale. We have confirmed the dates with the very cooperative Calgary Curling Club: Thursday, April 24 to Wednesday, May 21. This is the same period as last year, so once again we will be having a free day on the Victoria Day Monday -- so much to celebrate!
We hope each and everyone of you are in for another year of fun and frolic. So please try to reschedule all family weddings, birth of grandbabies and romantic getaways around these dates (just kidding, of course - but you are indispensable!)
We will plan our first BBS Committee meeting for the first week of February - exact date to follow.

What is a Focus Area Advocate?
Thanks to Deb, Franco, Howie, Manon, Randy, Steve, and Trevor for helping the Granting Strategy Implementation Team figure out what roles will be needed to support our four new focus areas.
Rotary has had the important role of Champion for several years. This role is used by many of the local, and international, granting committees (ie: small, major and legacy). It involves one (or more) Rotarian agreeing to meet with an organization who has submitted a funding application. This role helps the Club get more information to better evaluate proposals and make decisions about where Rotary funds will go. Champions are primarily used by committees that have a budget. The Early Childhood Literacy Committee is another granting committee but it uses a community advisory committee, not Champions, to decide how Book Sale proceeds will be strategically spent for greater impact.
Please note that starting November 19th, Frank n' Stein, our regularly scheduled get together informal event, moved to the FIRST and THIRD TUESDAY of each month.

The Mayhood Honour Roll displays the names of Rotarians who have contributed their treasure to either the Calgary Rotary Clubs Foundation and / or The Rotary Foundation. It's nearly the end of the year and still time to make your donation to HAVE AN IMPACT and get that CHARITABLE DONATION receipt. These are our Foundations and provide the fuel for our club and other Rotarians in our District to execute projects of IMPACT in our community and abroad. Every contribution counts- big or small. Make a donation ... make an impact!
When is the COG published?

The COG, the electronic newsletter informing our members of our club's activities and interesting articles, is published approximately every 2 weeks, usually (but not always) the week when we do not have an inperson club meeting. We'd love to send it weekly but it takes about 6 hours to put together so every other week will have to do.
If you'd like to have us publish an article or have an idea about what we should be publishing, please forward your ideas to Manon or Diane by the FRIDAY before the Tuesday publication date.
You are also welcome to contact either Manon or Diane to discuss any idea you may have.
