We have welcomed several great new members recently and we would like to let you know a little more about them over the next few issues of the COG. Today, please meet LINDSAY MARCZAK:
Lindsay Marczak was born and raised in the Edmonton area. She has 4 brothers and 1 sister, with her and her twin brother being the youngest. She started her Rotary career as an Interact member from grades 10-12 and was the Club President in grade 11. Her involvement in the Interact club involved trips to Belize, Fiji, South Africa, and Swaziland.
She moved to Calgary in May 2017 when she started her career in IT recruitment. Since then, she has developed herself more in her career and has gone on several humanitarian trips to South/Central America, Madagascar, Ghana, and Nepal. She now works as a Resourcing Manager for AMTRA Solutions. She enjoys spending her spare time hiking in the mountains, playing volleyball, golfing, going to breweries, and meeting new people.She is actively involved in the World Community Service Committee and Major Donations Committee and is eager to see where her Rotary life will take her.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith spoke to just over 100 Rotarians and guests at our club meeting this past Tuesday March 5th, 2024. The next day her post on Facebook recognized the impact of our club! By the way, Premier Smith was a Rotarian in the Rotary Club of High River!

Reinvigorating The Rotary Tom Jackson Stay in School Program

In 2010, Catherine Brownlee and Steve Allan, building upon RCCD’s legacy Stay in School program and with the inspiration of Marmie Hess, launched the Tom Jackson Stay in School Program. In consultation with Indigenous Elders and leaders, as well as our Club’s Past Presidents and the membership generally, the program focused on supporting Indigenous students in completing high school.
Walley Temple is one of six members Rotary International is honouring this year as People of Action, for the project: "Towards the Elimination of Cervical Cancer in Guatemala"! Imagine the honor of being among only six Rotarians who receive the award!!!
And Walley's response to this is as follows:
"As you know it takes a team, the inspiration and help from our committee , the mentoring from Sonny and Barb, everyone that makes our club work like you (Manon) and Kurt , and our international and host club and NGO to name a few . I truly share credit with all of you and feel quite humble accepting the award . Thank you "
