Message from President Madeleine
I want to update you on some key aspects that your board is busy with, especially since we had our first meeting of 2023 just last week.
We are busy working towards having measurable annual goals for our board and directors’ portfolios and big committees, all based on our five Critical Success Factors (identified through last year’s Long Range Planning process). The current LRP with those Factors can now be found under Documents / LRP in the Members’ section of our website. They are proving to be very helpful for all our board work. We hope this work translates into a good member experience for you all.
Planning for us to take over the Big Book Sale is coming along well, and you will hear far more at our zoom meeting January 31.
The 2nd James Wheeler Davidson (JWD) special lunch will be a very special occasion April 25.
Membership is happily dealing with a steady stream of applicants, as well as developing a new Retention sub-committee. Programs continue to find exceptional speakers to inform, engage and entertainment us. Before the Rotary year-end we will do another survey to find out if the majority of members are still wanting our current mix alternating between zoom and in-person.
Treasurer Bill Hamilton reported that we are tracking well against budget projections. Our budget and the PowerPoint presentation are also available in the Members’ section of our website.
In closing I want just to mention that my husband Bob and I so much enjoyed our recent Dinner Club event, an evening filled with laughter and fellowship, enabling us to enjoy the company of Rotarians we know as well as getting to know those we didn’t really know beforehand.

The annual event is the primary fundraiser for the Rotary Carl Smith Stay in School Program, which currently mentors over sixty-five students in grades 6-12. Every day, we travel over 150,000 kms and safely transport over 100,000 people to their destinations and then Safely Home. Yes, a lot of those passengers are indeed those precious schoolchildren. However, we want to remind everyone that SOUTHLAND Transportation also offers an excellent Charter Service that can accommodate any size of group.

We will be formally introducing TRACY JOHNSON, SADE NASSER AND MALLORY PANICH at a meeting in the near future, but if you see them before that, please introduce yourself and make them feel welcome.

Gardeners it’s time to start planning this summers garden. For nine years now, NSTEP and The Rotary Club of Calgary West, have been partnering to offer amazing veggies and plants to beautify and enhance your property.
The cherry tomatoes never cease to produce tasty fruit and the quality of the flowers are of the highest standard which means more blooms and exquisite beauty.

Happy New Year!! Now that we're back into the swing of things, Family Skate Night is rescheduled for Monday, February 6, 2023 at 6pm. Look forward to seeing you, your families and any guests you'd like to bring. Skates are available to rent at the Clubhouse (so no excuses). If you don't want to skate, no worries, we need a fire stoker!
