Seeding Readers: Author and Illustrator Call for Submissions
Early Childhood Literacy Committee
Are you a local author? Do you have a story that celebrates the joy of reading, the magic of books, or the power of oral storytelling traditions? Are you an emerging illustrator who delights in bringing stories to life through your art? The Calgary Reads Big Book Sale, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Calgary, invites you to submit your stories or illustrations to our Seeding Readers Campaign.
In celebration of 20 years of service in our community, the Calgary Reads Big Book Sale is launching our Seeding Readers Campaign. Each year a new picture book will be written and illustrated by a local author and illustrator, and it will be published and distributed to families in our community. Like a dandelion spreading its seeds upon the wind, it is our wish that these books find their way into the homes of children and help them grow a deep-rooted love for reading.
Ebenezer was formally introduced to the Club by Barb Young at the March 12 meeting. Ebenezer was born and raised in Ghana and has a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, with a focus on Network Engineering. He says his professional trajectory took shape with a dedication to volunteerism, laying the groundwork for an extraordinary journey across 26 countries on three continents.
Ebenezer has been in Calgary since 2022. Prior to that, he ran a management consulting firm focusing on business growth and expansion strategy. He worked with a variety of industries (aviation, oil and gas, health care, pharmaceutical and mining), focusing on helping each business thrive in a competitive landscape. Presently, Ebenezer serves as the Co-Founder and Principal of Migr8 Capital, a Venture Fund dedicated to investing in newcomer founders, empowering them to realize their entrepreneurial dreams in Calgary/Canada. Having grown up with three sisters, Ebenezer developed a deep sense of concern for women. He is committed to the fight against cervix cancer as it is the leading cause of mortality among women in Africa. He has joined the World Community Service Committee and has met with Walley Temple to understand better what Walley’s project is doing so that he can help those in Africa.
On a very personal note, Ebenezer is the proud father of a new son, baby Asher. He says that experience fills his heart with immeasurable joy and gratitude. Please introduce yourself to Ebenezer and welcome him to our Club.
