Resumption of "In Person" meetings at the Palliser Hotel on Tuesday January 11, 2022

We plan to resume “In Person” meetings at the Palliser Hotel on Tuesday January 11th 2022. The current plan is to meet “In Person” on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, keeping in mind there may be exceptions (e.g. March 1st is IN PERSON celebrating James Wheeler Davidson). Note: you will need to pre-purchase your meeting ticket; none will be sold at the door.

It is our intent to go ahead with “In Person” meetings unless the Government of Alberta in coordination with Alberta Health Services pose restrictions preventing this type of meeting. We will follow the guidelines provided and if we need to switch to zoom, your $45 will be refunded.

We will alternate between “In-Person” and “Zoom” formats with “In-Person” happening on the second and fourth Tuesday each month.  As we are ordering the right number of plates to be served, we ask that you PRE PURCHASE your club meeting ticket no later than midnight Thursday before the club meeting. This gives the Palliser 2 business days to prepare.

The meals are plated so we pay for what we order. Once we have established a solid, consistent minimum of 50 people we will be able to transition to a buffet lunch.  Click on this link to order your club meeting tickets today!

COVID PROTOCOLS: All AHS protocols (proof of vaccination, masks, social distancing) for in person gatherings will be followed. Masks will be required when not eating.

Glenlake Hawks U18 BC1 hockey team lends a helping hand to the Rotary Christmas Hamper Project
By Bill Hamilton

Over 3 days, the Glenlake Hawks U18 BC1 hockey team put together books donated by Calgary Reads and stuffed animals from the Calgary Hitmen Teddy Bear Toss, and distributed them to the Elves ready for delivery to the families in need.  Thanks to Cathy Freer-Leszczynski and her daughter Cassie, Jen and Bill Hamilton (Club Member and Head Coach of Glenlake U18 BC1), the Players, Flames Community Arena, and special thanks to Lorelei Matthews (Team Manager) who coordinated everything and did a lot of the heavy lifting.   You can follow the team on the Hockey Calgary website.

Service Above Self- Your opportunity to be in service
By Manon Mitchell

As Rotarians we share values with others like us who want to make a difference in the world. We express some of these values through the motto “Service Above Self”. What does it mean to be in service? Rotary offers 5 Avenues of Service or categories that are clearly visible in club structures around the world. The 5 Avenues of Service are:
  • Club Service
  • Youth Service
  • Community Service
  • International Service
  • Vocational Service
Let’s focus on Club Service and how it is important more than ever to step up and be in service to your club. We are moving to in person meetings twice a month on the second and fourth Tuesday. We need YOU to help at in person meetings by being in service through the following roles:
Don’t wait for someone to come calling at your door. STEP UP AND VOLUNTEER TODAY!
All you need to do it 1) purchase your “in person club meeting” ticket and 2) notify the appropriate coordinator to volunteer on a specific day. It’s that easy to be engaged in your club and make “service above self” a reality in your Rotary journey.
