Steve Allan introduced this week's speaker Court Ellingson, who provided an overview of Calgary Economic Development's new strategic plan, titled Calgary in the New Economy. This plan, which supersedes the 2014 strategic plan, was approved by Calgary City Council in June.
Calgary is a city with enormous potential. Its natural advantages include an inclusive and entrepreneurial spirit, as well as a young and growing population. With these advantages, Calgary continues to draw in top talent from across Canada and around the world, and our entrepreneurs are leading a wave of innovation. Calgary in the New Economy builds on our existing strengths in transportation and logistics, agribusiness, and energy. It also seeks to guide the city's development in several emerging and growth clusters, which include tourism, the creative industries, life sciences and health, and financial services. The goal of the plan is to drive this growth by focussing on four key areas.
Talent. Becoming Canada's top destination for skilled workers.
Innovation. Becoming Canada's leading business-to-business (B2B) innovation ecosystem.
Place. Becoming Canada's most livable city.
Business Environment. Becoming Canada's most business-friendly city.
