Service Events

Requests for volunteers for the Club events will be sent out by email or in the COG Newsletter and will also be displayed on the website.
  • BBQ’sThis is a big fund raising activity for the Club.  Volunteers are needed to do a variety of catering tasks.  BBQs are usually held in the summer months and require about 3-4 hours of your time.   Great for fellowship, the work is not of a heavy nature.  You could be assigned to serve beer or the meals, wash dishes, or put utensils away.  Food is provided to all volunteers.  Partners, family, and friends are welcome. Must be over 18.
  • Feed the Hungry DinnerAbout 100 volunteers are needed to host and serve a meal to those less fortunate.  3-4 hour shifts are required.   This event usually occurs on a Sunday afternoon, twice per year and usually in May and September.  Partners, friends and children welcome to participate.
  • Vocational Training Teams(VTT)organized through Rotary District 5360, Vocational Training Teams are groups of professionals who travel abroad either to teach local professionals about a particular field or to learn more about their own. Check the District Organization Chart for the VTT Leader contact.
  • Rotaract a University of Calgary based organization for youth 18-30 years who hopefully will become Rotarians.  Meetings are held bi-weekly on Tuesdays.  

Fellowship Events

Typical Fellowship events may include the following.  Keep an eye on the Events list for current events.
  • Bridge – Usually played one evening per week during the Fall and Spring.
  • Chinese Dinner – A get together to celebrate Chinese New Year.
  • Curling – 5-6 curlers needed to play in a league.
  • Dinner club – Registration is in September. Usually 4 dinners are held per year during the Fall and Spring.  Each dining group consists of 4 couples.  Each couple acts as a host for one meal in their home and is the guest at the other 3.
  • Frank ‘n Stein – A monthly gathering on the third Thursday of each month at a local watering hole for good conversation and a few laughs.
  • Golf – 1 or 2 golf tournaments are held throughout the summer months.
  • Hiking – One hike is usually planned later in the Summer.
  • Hockey Scrimmage – Annual event that held at the Saddledome for members and their families to skate and/or participate in a friendly scrimmage game.
  • Lobsterfest – A spring dinner open to members and partners.
  • Ping Pong – Held at a member’s home every second Monday night during the Fall and Spring.
  • President’s Event – Generally held in the Spring.   Committee consists of 7-8 people who meet weekly to plan the event.
  • Rotary Flames Golf – One day event in the fall at a local Calgary course for members and partners.
  • Skiing – A one day event for members and partners usually at Lake Louise.   Bus transportation is provided. 
  • Theatre Night – Usually organized for the Spring.
  • Trail Ride – Usually a weekend in August, somewhere in Kananaskis Country.
