Hi My Rotary Friends,

Wednesday’s meeting saw a wonderful presentation from Chris Chisostomos, who spoke about the SES, and floods in Murwillumbah….. lots of information and insights, and great that we can all have a better understanding. Chris has put out a request to our Club members for volunteers as “Event Responders”, which means that if a “Significant Event” happens eg: major flood, we would be called in to assist with phones, computers, admin. David and I are both intending to be a part of this…. please let me know if you are interested, and we will go as a group to tour the SES Murwillumbah Unit.

Thank you Liz Nihill for another fabulous icebreaker – sharing what our Ideal Day is was a great reflection and a lot of fun!

Huge congratulations to Mark Moore, who was presented with this month’s Fellowship Award, by last month’s awardee, Cam Weeks. Two absolutely amazing new members, we are so lucky to have you both as members of our Club!

This coming Wednesday is our monthly Assembly Meeting, and we can look forward to a Member Behind The Badge presentation from our beautiful Sophia Partland, along with our Bring and Buy table. This will be our last Bring and Buy for this Rotary year, so please make a super effort and let’s see if this can be our best ever!

Many thanks to Ann’s husband Grant, and also to Wayne – these two awesome men went and cooked at the Sausage Sizzle at Tumbulgum Primary School – raising $200 for our Club…… what superstars! Thank You!

Our Board of Directors held our last meeting for this Rotary year on Thursday evening, followed by dinner at the Riverview Hotel for those who could attend….. lots of fun. Many thanks to our incredibly wonderful Board for all that you do. Thank you for all your time, energy and expertise that you have so generously given to our Club over the last 12mths….. you have led our Club fabulously!

The truck full of generously donated goods arrived from Victoria and was unloaded on Friday. Thank you so much to everyone who has been a part of making this happen. There will be lot of people in the Chinderah and Northern NSW area who will be very grateful for this amazing generosity.

FOUNDATION: Please remember to consider making a tax deductible donation to Rotary Foundation before the end of this financial year.

Thank you everyone for serving to change lives!

Guest Speaker:
Simone introduced guest speaker Chris Christostomos from the SES. He has served as controller for 17 years.

Chris discussed issues facing the SES. In 2017 there were 35 members servicing a population of 19,000. In 2022 there are 25 members. Some of these members re also in RFS and fire brigade. There is a need for younger people to join. Most new members are women.

The fact that the Tweed River is short and relatively narrow creates challenges. It floods quickly. Usually there is only a 6 hour warning period until outside help is cut off.

Chris stressed the importance of people managing their own situations, being aware of triggers and when they will be cut off. The advice is to get out as early as possible. Focus is on saving lives.

Chris was thanked for his presentation and his wonderful contribution to the community through the SES and Cadets.

Fellowship Award:
Cam passed on the award to Mark. Congratulations on a well-deserved recognition.
