Guest Speaker:
Simone introduced guest speaker Chris Christostomos from the SES. He has served as controller for 17 years.
Chris discussed issues facing the SES. In 2017 there were 35 members servicing a population of 19,000. In 2022 there are 25 members. Some of these members re also in RFS and fire brigade. There is a need for younger people to join. Most new members are women.
The fact that the Tweed River is short and relatively narrow creates challenges. It floods quickly. Usually there is only a 6 hour warning period until outside help is cut off.
Chris stressed the importance of people managing their own situations, being aware of triggers and when they will be cut off. The advice is to get out as early as possible. Focus is on saving lives.
Chris was thanked for his presentation and his wonderful contribution to the community through the SES and Cadets.
Fellowship Award:
Cam passed on the award to Mark. Congratulations on a well-deserved recognition.
