TWEED PALLIATIVE SUPPORT

Tweed Palliative Support Inc. is a multi-award-winning charity founded in 1998.
We are a well-established community run organisation that provides free and donation based support services for people living with a life-limiting illness. TPS “hospice-at-home” service is designed to keep people in their homes for as long as possible by providing help with shopping, personal care, transport to medical appointments as well as respite for the primary carer. If it is not feasible to remain at home, people are offered the opportunity to come to Wedgetail Retreat.

We also loan medical equipment such as electric hospital beds, wheelchairs, etc. Each year TPS trains up to 20 new volunteers who then take on various roles within the charity: home respite, transport, office work, fundraising or assisting the Registered Nurses at the Hospice. Wedgetail Retreat operates on a donation basis.

WEDGETAIL RETREAT

Wedgetail Retreat Community Hospice started with a dream: a deep desire to fulfil the community need for an inclusive, 24/7 specialised palliative care facility in the region.

Clients with a life-limiting illness and their families are welcomed into our modern home-like environment in a rainforest setting. Friendly Registered Nurses and trained volunteer palliative carers offer a client-centred approach to caring for you and your loved ones. The vulnerable and disadvantaged are cared for free of charge. Clients and families that can afford to, donate funds to assist with ongoing operational costs.

Despite our popular hospice taking the burden off the health system, especially for high need palliative clients and those who do not have a full-time carer at home, we are not government funded by NSW state government.

Each year our combined Hospice services support more than 600 palliative clients and this number increases into the thousands when our other clients and family support services are included.

TPS offers best practice, client-centred emotional and physical palliative care support. We collaborate with multi-disciplinary medical teams and community services (volunteers, nursing homes, home health agencies, councils, social workers, community health workers) in the Northern Rivers region and beyond.

Wedgetail Retreat Hospice’s philosophy is to provide a space where people can be themselves. Each patient and their family will be on a unique and individual journey towards letting go. Our team specialise in providing education and information to support clients and their loved ones to make the best decisions based on what is most important to them at that stage of life. Our hospice focuses on the concept of living well and helping our guests to establish a deep sense of meaning and connection during their final days of life.

RYLA DINNER GOES ONLINE!!!!

Each year, Rotarians are invited to attend a dinner evening to meet the RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) awardees they have sponsored, and find out about how they are enjoying the programme.
This year, as with so many things, the dinner is going online (internet issues aside of course!).
If you haven't attended a RYLA dinner before, we thoroughly recommend you do. It is a truly wonderful experience to meet the amazing group of 18-29 year olds who have been sponsored to engage in this very worthwhile week.
Mt Warning AM have sponsored the delightful Emily who looks after us every Wednesday morning at Johnny Francos.
If you can sign in, please do! (Invitation with Meeting Link below)

ROTARY YOUTH LEADERSHIP AWARDS (RYLA)

RYLA is a premier youth leadership development program for people aged 19-29.

During a week long camp designed to promote proactivity, personal and professional development through a range of inspirational speakers, team building exercises and leadership training. The development of communication and presentation skills, problem solving, conflict resolution, self-confidence and self-esteem are key objectives of this program.

RYLA is one of those “once-in-a-lifetime” experiences which truly has a lasting impact on your life. The high intensity seminar is filled to the brim with Australia’s leading inspirational and motivational guest speakers, who give up their time purely based on the benefits they see every year for those attending.
