JEANNIE'S JOURNAL

Welcome My Rotary Friends,

Well, what a week! The border has been closed, with very limited exemptions in place which presents many challenges for many people. Thankfully we are still able to have our weekly meetings at Johnny Francos, and everyone has been wonderful with being covi19 safe, and adhering to the restrictions…. Thank you! The border closures will bring with it whole new series of pressures and struggles for people, so please make sure we look after each other, and those around as much as possible.

Our meeting on Wednesday was fabulous! I loved seeing everyone there early and having time to chat and connect and enjoy fellowship before the formal part of our meeting began. Thank you Kaileen Casey for leading an amazing session with our 4 Service Teams, what a sensational idea! So many wonderful ideas and strategies were discussed and set as goals, it is going to be an inspiring year of Service Above Self for our Club. Thank Rhonda for leading us with Happy Birthday in sign language, so much fun!

Thank you everyone for getting involved with our new Closed Facebook page too.   Great seeing the memes and photos, and love the feedback on various posts. Is another way to stay connected in between meetings, so please feel welcome to post, ask questions, share quotes, stories, ideas, goals, even Dad Jokes.

This Wednesday we will have Cherry (Membership Director) and Ann (Foundation Director) leading us to create planning goals and opportunities for Membership and Foundation for the next year, which will be very exciting.

We will also have our BRING AND BUY TABLE…. so get those goods together to bring in…. a heap of fun, raises funds for Foundation….. and I’m hoping there will be some delicious lunch/dinner foods there again!

Looking forward to seeing you all on Wednesday morning,
Yours in Rotary,
Jeannie

ROTARY AUSTRALIA WORLD COMMUNITY SERVICE – (RAWCS)

What RAWCS does

Rotary Australia World Community Service Ltd (RAWCS) works in harmony with the Rotary Foundation and its ‘Areas of Focus’, delivering humanitarian aid through the Australian regional network of Rotarians, Clubs and Districts by empowering:

  • Projects – volunteer work teams and/or funding for Rotary projects undertaken locally, nationally and internationally;
  • Rotarians Against Malaria – providing supplies, equipment and volunteers to support the elimination of malaria in our region by 2030;
  • Donations-in-kind – collecting and transporting surplus goods from Australia to where they are needed overseas;
  • Communications – delivering Rotary in action to the public, the corporate sector, philanthropists and governments and linking Rotarians and Clubs with RAWCS activities.

These activities provide sustainable development and relief work overseas and charitable support for people in need of assistance within Australia. RAWCS administers three Tax Deductible funds:

  • Rotary Australia Overseas Aid Fund – currently supporting 387 overseas projects delivering humanitarian aid in 130 countries;
  • Rotary Australia Benevolent Society – last year supported 104 compassionate grants to Australians in need;
  • Rotary Australia Relief Fund – rapid response to accept donations to major appeals disbursing funds to appropriate aid projects.

RAWCS provides back end systems and project services to all Australian Rotary Clubs for project accounting, donations and fund raising support, management, regulatory compliance, volunteer support, communications and marketing. These services are overseen by the Australian District Governors who are the RAWCS Ltd members.

So why should Australian Rotarians use RAWCS?

  • Easy to use on line systems that deliver nationally consistent project management in line with the ethical behavior and values of Rotary International.
  • Providing you and your project partners with tax deductibility for donors, project accounting, internal audit, and secure international currency transfers at low rates.
  • RAWCS has comprehensive Australian Government registrations providing regulatory compliance for your project.
  • RAWCS Promotes Rotary through nationally recognized high profile projects, advocacy and marketing.

In the last 12 months RAWCS has processed AUD$ 32M in donations. Significant progress has been made on the RAWCS Strategic Goal of sourcing external funding for Rotary Projects. This has amounted to AUD$ 10M in the past few years and RAWCS has developed policies and plans to source further significant external funding to assist and strengthen Rotary projects.

Rotary Australia World Community Service Limited (RAWCS) was incorporated in 1987 as a public company limited by guarantee, bound by its constitution and authorised by Rotary International as a Multi-District Activity.

RAWCS has established a staffed office to process the administrative, accounting and banking functions.

RAWCS is not an emergency response organization, but rather looks to engage in sustainable, developmental or relief projects.

LOOPER NOTES

Looper Notes 21st July, 2021

Jeannie thanked us all for arriving early to the meeting. Hayley greeted members with a creative sign of ‘Keep calm and Good Morning’ Kaylene S read the 4-way test for our Words of Wisdom.

Jeannie asked the Directors if they had any updates. Judy is going to speak to Janelle from Tygalgum Primary about Solar Buddies. We ‘missed the boat’ for the Science Forum which will be conducted over zoom. Judy also said she doesn’t need any more hankies for Father’s Day presents for the nursing homes but still send in chocolates and razors.
Elizabeth (publicity) asked members to send to her any good photos.

Jeff encouraged all club members to donate $10 to go to Polio Plus. If every member in our club donates $10 then our Club will be a Sir Clem Renouf Club. World Polio Day will be on 24th October. Our Club will create awareness to the community by having a cake stall etc. Members are advised 25th July will be our Bring and Buy. Jeannie said that 11th August will be the next toiletry kit packing.

If you intend to attend District Assembly: Question and Answer Sessions then please let Steph know by Wednesday morning 29th July so she can organise a group booking. The Club pays $20 towards your attendance. Sessions are Ballina 8th August, Warwick 14th August and Burleigh 22nd August.
A Transfer Meeting will be held on 25th August where we will go to the Farmer’s Market. On 9th September a Club Dinner will be held after the Board Meeting. On 11th September in the Tygalgum Community Hall there will a fundraiser (going towards replacing curtains) consisting of a 3 course dinner. 13 - 14th October Men’s Health Education van. Hayley is taking orders for new Club shirts.

We were placed in our working groups to plan our future activities

Spokesperson for each group gave a brief outline of the direction they intended to take.
Poppies on Parade:
Promote awareness in March or April with a cake stall with proceeds going to Soldier On. Book Jessie McMillan Hall to organise thank you morning tea for people who helped last year and give out wool packs. Launch a flyer and have a Promotional Box at the Markets. Drop wool packs to the Nursing Homes. Liaise with RSL and Council.
Solar Buddies
Go to Tygalgum School Assembly and visit St Joseph’s. Do more leg work in schools. Distribute already prepared ‘SolarBuddies’ packs. Do a Fundraiser. Goal for 200 units in next 12 months.
RiverTracks
Liaise with President and Youth Worker Ahri Tallon to find out what he needs. This group will be guided by Ahri and find out what jobs these young people can do (weekends or week days) Questions such as should they be in school? Will they be working with animals like BackTracks in Armidale?
Family Centre
Contact the Family Centre re: Home Starter Packs. Take donations of goods besides money. One fundraising idea was to buy brightly coloured socks online to raise money.
The groups will report back to the Club each month
Fines Jeff and Virginia.
