HAYLEY'S HERALD
Hi Everyone,

Thank you again to Jeannie for running the meeting in my absence. I will be staying away again this week to be on the safe side.

I would have liked to have been there last week to see Simone’s presentation, just to see if there is anything else I could have learnt. (Editors note. You would have learnt nothing except my credit card details and a painfully slow presentation)

This week’s speakers is our very own Lizzie Dillon – member behind the badge and we will also be welcoming Dianne from Love Bites.

Is anyone able to attend a briefing on Saturday 28th of November at 10.00 am ending at 12.00 noon at the Masonic Centre, 56 Cherry Street, Ballina NSW 2478 to discuss the 100 Years of Rotary in Australia Baton Relay?

Complimentary morning tea/coffee and a light lunch will be provided with the compliments of Ballina on Richmond Rotary Club.

Dave Harmon, President of Ballina on Richmond Rotary Club has been asked to coordinate the Baton Relay logistics with clubs and Assistant Governors for our NSW Clubs in our clusters 1, 2, 3 & 4 under the supervision of PDG Terry Brown who will Chair the briefing.

I’m unable to attend, however I’m really excited for this event.

Cheers,
Hayley

IMPORTANT NEWS

“Northern Region Donations in Kind Newsletter and Overview of Operations by Manager John Paskin.

The Region can be very proud of its achievements during 2020 despite the Pandemic.

We are very short of Wheelchairs, Hospital Linen,  and simple aids like Crutches, any Club that can put out a shout for these items can let me know and I will arrange collection. (EDITORS NOTE - Any of our wonderful Medical Rotarians able to assist with this?)

“Repurpose” is the new word for what we do rather than “Recycle” – I have also attached the List of the things that we Repurpose and ship to needy recipient countries.

A new Satellite Club is being launched – the “Satellite Club of Bribie Island (Environmental Repurposing)” at the Kingston Depot tomorrow and we congratulate the 15 founding members.

Finally we are seeking support to fund a 20’ Container of Hospital Beds and supplies including 4 large operating theatre lights to Guido Valadares National Hospital, Dili, Timor Leste.

In this difficult year for fund raising - all clubs are asked to consider a contribution to RAWCS DIK for funding this and other containers. Each Container freight costs $8-10,000 depending on destination, often with additional clearance costs at the recipient end.   Your consideration and help would be much appreciated.”

LOOPER NOTES

Looper Notes 18th November, 2020

Jeannie stood in again for Hayley this week. Jeannie introduced our guests Mark and John from Murwillumbah Rotary. Kaileen showed Sarah (our potential new member) our Rotary Words of Wisdom booklet. Sarah read out the Four Way Test after Kaileen demonstrated by saying Rotary Grace.

Haley sent through another bad joke.
Why are archaeologists so annoyed?
They always have a bone to pick.

Simone showed us how to make a Rotary Foundation Donation. It is necessary to go to Rotary.org and sign into your My Rotary Account by typing in your email address and using your account password. Then click on donate and find Annual Fund and tick Australian dollars. Details on how to make a donation will be emailed to members.

Kaylene B read out how our donations to The Rotary Foundation’s Annual Fund helps to provide the funding for local and international grant projects that improve lives around the world. Your contributions help to promote peace, fight disease, provide clean water and sanitation, save mothers and children, support education, grow local economies, and respond to disasters. Rotarians gave $123.6 million to the Annual Fund and the Foundation awarded 1,359 global grants. Leonie handed out a quiz on Rotary Foundation Facts. This certainly improved our knowledge. The winning group won chocolates.

Jeanie gave the Services report.  She thanked members for bringing in Christmas items for You have a Friend. Members were asked to bring in wrapped soft chocolates for people in aged care. The Board submitted a grant last week for funds to go towards decorating the bridge with poppies for Anzac Day next year. The Club will hear back in December whether we were successful with this request.

Due to Covid restrictions our Christmas Party at Cherry’s has been set aside.
John and Mark from Murwillumbah Rotary have invited our club to their Christmas Party on 28th November. The party is to be held in The Citadel at 7pm. Cost is $25 and if you are interested please reply to Mary-Ann.
Mary-Ann received an email from Kim (Chambers of Commerce) asking us to be involved in a Christmas Windows Competition. Our job will be explaining to business owners the details of the competition. Jonathan from The Weekly is keen to be involved. In Murwillumbah on 18th December it will be Open Shopping.

Our AGM is on 9th December. Mary said she is going to be a Grandma of twins!
Helen won the raffle. Peter did the fines.
