JEANNIE'S JOURNAL

Happy Australia Day to you all,

What a week it has been, with our Australia Day event being successfully delivered.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you to all of you wonderful Rotary Mt Warning AM members who have given so much of your time, energy and expertise over the last 6weeks. As always, everyone has contributed to making this the successful day that it was.

For me the highlight was our Indigenous group who spoke such beautiful words, shared their culture with us, danced and told us their stories…… and they even allowed us to come up and dance with them, and taught us both the dance and meaning of each of the steps. I still get goose bumps just thinking about it. It was a very special experience!

Congratulations to our ten awardees, who were presented with our Australia Day Rotary Community Service Awards. A very special congratulations to our very own Mary-Ann Thackray and Glenn Nott who were both honoured with an award for the amazing service they both give to our community…. so very well deserved!

Our Australia Day event was livestreamed to Facebook, and you can go to our Facebook page to see the recording. The zoom recording will also be available, and you can all look forward to viewing our video and professional photos too.

This week has also seen our RYLA candidate, Coreen North, attending the camp out at Camp Bornhoffen. DG Jeff, Kaileen, David and myself were lucky enough to be able to attend and enjoyed a fabulous dinner and evening. Coreen is loving her time there, and already had lots of stories to tell us and memories to share.

Thank you to our January Vocational Theme Team….. you were absolutely fabulous…. and welcome to our February Theme Team. We are looking forward to a month ahead that is focused on all things Peace and Conflict Resolution.

Many thanks

Looking forward to seeing you all on Wednesday,

Yours in Rotary,
Jeannie

Today, over 70 million people are displaced as a result of conflict, violence, persecution, and human rights violations. Half of them are children.

We refuse to accept conflict as a way of life. Rotary projects provide training that fosters understanding and provides communities with the skills to resolve conflicts.

Rotary creates environments of peace

As a humanitarian organization, peace is a cornerstone of our mission. We believe when people work to create peace in their communities, that change can have a global effect.

By carrying out service projects and supporting peace fellowships and scholarships, our members take action to address the underlying causes of conflict, including poverty, discrimination, ethnic tension, lack of access to education, and unequal distribution of resources.

Our commitment to peace building today answers new challenges: how we can make the greatest possible impact and how we can achieve our vision of lasting change. We are approaching the concept of peace with greater cohesion and inclusivity, broadening the scope of what we mean by peacebuilding, and finding more ways for people to get involved.

Rotary creates environments where peace can happen.
