HAYLEY'S HERALD
How good was last weeks meeting?

We kicked off with inducted our latest AM’er Sarah Hendrikse, who has already jumped in boots and all with club activities. Sarah, thank you for joining our club.

Then straight into presenting Cherry as our latest Paul Harris Fellow recipient. It was lovely to meet Cherry’s family and share the moment with them.

We held our AGM and found out who Jeannie has recruited for next years board – and it’s a cracker!

And then there was Fin and Joe and their mum Rachel, Fin and Joe have collectively made over 100 poppies and have even got their Grandmother in England making poppies too – that’s right, we have gone international!

This weeks meeting will be the last one for the year, the team have got something prepared for Disease Prevention month and we will also be having our Secret Santa – please bring a gift to the value of $10.00 and wear Christmas colours.

Judy is organising a social night for 18th of December, please let her know if you are interested and once she has numbers more details will be provided

Jeannie has scheduled in another packing night for You Have A Friend at the MMA offices on 16th December, any last-minute donations of deodorant, toothpaste or sanitary items will be hugely appreciated particularly at this time of the year.

Have you got a rotary themed inspirational message that we can write on the blackboard out the front of Johnny Franco’s? If so, Cherry has a notebook that we can submit them in so then they aren’t forgotten. It would be good to see one from every member.

As always I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday morning.

Cheers,
Hayley

IMPORTANT NEWS

Dear Presidents & Secretaries, please see below some exciting information from PDG Ross Smith relating to the next International Convention being held in TAIWAN and I ask that you share this with your members. Please contact Ross directly should you have any questions - his details appear at the end of his email.

"As the representative for the promotion of the International Convention, I write to remind you to diarise the Rotary International Convention to be conducted in Taipei, the capital city of TAIWAN, 12 – 16 June 2021, Saturday to Wednesday.

In particular, I wanted to remind you of the last day for Early Registration to be 15 December 2020.

The reduced rate, up till that date, for Rotarians and Guests, 31yrs and over, is $US365. Rotarians and Guests under 30yrs  and children are charged at an even more reduced rate.

However, the last date for Early Registration has now been extended to 15 February 2021.

Early in the new year, Rotary will consider issues of international travel regarding health and safety and further advice will be provided prior to that February date.

I know Taipei and Taiwan very well and would be happy to share my personal knowledge of the people and the nation.

Accordingly, I am making myself available to all Rotary Clubs in the District as a Guest Speaker on this remarkable international opportunity for Rotarians of District 9640.

Let me share just a couple of interesting points on this outstanding country:

1: Taiwan is just half the size of Tasmania yet has a similar population to our own nation.
2: Taiwan built the biggest building in the world in 2014 - Taipei 101. It was overtaken only in 2010.
3: Taipei 101 is still the biggest “green” building in the world.
4: Taiwan is a world leader in managing Covid-19 with just 7 fatalities in total.
5: Taiwan has a subtropical to tropical climate so summer there will be perfect for our district representatives.
6: Taiwan has six mountains higher than Mt. Kosciuszko with lovely national parks and beaches.

So, do note the new early registration date and costs (above), and if you would like a Guest Speaker on this opportunity, then, please contact me.

REGISTER TODAY at convention.rotary.org.

Yours in Rotary Service,

Ross Smith
