Looper Notes 1st December, 2021
Jeannie acknowledged the Traditional Owners and greeted everyone on a very rainy day.
We had two visitors who were invited to come along to our meeting after they inquired about our Club at the Showground Markets.
Lizzie read the Words of Wisdom and Mary gave a Covid update.
Mary introduced December’s Theme: Disease Prevention and Treatments and started off with an Icebreaker.
We stood up and then had to sit down if we hadn’t had a health check that Mary named.
Checks were: eye test, blood test, colonoscopy or faecal test, prostate or mammogram.
Our District Governor Jeff inducted Glenda into Rotary.
Motto of Rotary is Service Above Self. Desiree is Glenda’s mentor.

Birthdays

Simone is President of Murwillumbah’s Performing Arts and asked if anyone would like to volunteer to help out as volunteers were needed to help with the festival.
There was a meeting for members involved with Birthing Gifts after our meeting.
Our Guest Speaker: Phil Jones was introduced by Sarah (who inadvertently told
him to be at the meeting at 8:45am and then informed him to quickly get ready)!
Phil has been a registered nurse for 35 years. He now works as a prostate support nurse.
Prostate Cancer is the second leading cause of death in Australia. Phil has had Prostate Cancer and wants men to have a blood test called PSA and the reading should be low (2/3) if the reading is higher; than a further examination is necessary. A urologist can conduct a digital exam to check the size of the prostate.
Phil was advised to have surgery due to the aggressive nature of his tumour. When Phil later on had a reoccurrence, he had radiation treatment. He is now in remission. On reflection Phil wonders if he should have had initially radiation. Phil said that some people opt for hormone therapy and there are other treatments.
Phil emphasised the importance of men having a PSA test and told us his Mum advised him to have one as other members of their family had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Mary thanked Phil.
Lizzie did the fines.
