HAYLEY'S HERALD
Our trivia night raising money for Wedgetail Retreat will be this coming Saturday 1st of May, this is always a fun evening with enormous community support. Mt Warning AM Rotarians can you please be at the golf club at 5.30 for set up wearing your blue shirts? If you are unable to attend but have a blue shirt one of newer members could wear, can you please bring it to the meeting this week. Guests arrive at 6.00 and the first question is at 7.00. Can you please bring in any raffle prizes you may be able to donate?

The bookfair after many hiccups is on again, however on a smaller scale. Please mark Sunday 16th of May in your calendars – this is the day that we need to move our books from the storage shed to the Jessie McMillan Hall.

Wednesday 19th of May will be a transfer meeting at the Jessie McMillan Hall to set the stall up - please don’t go to Johnny Franco’s. Please be advised breakfast will not be supplied therefore no breaky fees that week, just hungry Rotarians.

The bookfair will run on from 9am – 5pm on Thursday May 20 and Friday May 21, and 9am – 1.00pm on Saturday May 22. When we close at 1.00 on the Saturday we will then be packing up and moving our well-travelled books back to storage.

As per the last Father’s Day and Christmas Day we are going to gift our local nursing homes with Mother’s Day gifts, your donation of individually wrapped chocolates such as Favourites would be appreciated – just saying chocolate donations such as blocks will be appreciated by your president as well!

Mt Warning AM’s change over is in the process, please see the attached invitation.

Who reads this newsletter? The first person to email me the location of a hidden Rotary wheel gets a prize!

This week’s speaker is a Jo from the Family Centre.

Tickets for District Conference have gone on sale, there will only be 500 available so if you are wanting to attend here is the link to purchase and register https://www.trybooking.com/events/landing?eid=716063&. Registration close on May 1st at 12.00 – DON’T MISS OUT!!!!

Just another quick reminder that you can make donations to Rotary Foundation via the internet. If you would like to do this but are having trouble setting it up, please let me know. Alternatively, we are happy to take cash donations at the meetings.

See you Wednesday morning.

Cheers,
Hayley

LOOPER NOTES
Looper Notes 21/4

Hayley’s joke
Q: Why was the broom late?
A: It overswept
Hayley opened the meeting acknowledging her appreciation of everyone who helped with the poppies set-up, and the awesome turnout for the 100 Years of Rotary Relay. Hayley thanked Elizabeth and Raine and Horne and Wollumbin bakery for the cupcakes which raised approximately $300. The Club have rounded it up to $1000 to donate to Love Bites.

Further acknowledgement of how fantastic the poppies on the bridge look and again for the turnout to put them up, and all the hard work of Kaileen Casey and the other ladies who have made this awesome feat possible.

An order for Club shirts will be put in soon. Club members with existing shirts may not have the correct logo so will be a good chance to order a new one. The order form will be in the green book next week.

Jeannie updated us on the Trivia night Saturday May 1 and read the roster created for the night, and requested that people turn up at 5.30 to help to set up for a 6pm start. Trivia questions to start at 7. Club members have been asked to bring in small items e.g. chocolates to put in the auction hampers.

You Have a Friend Packing night: Lizzie has chased up toiletries from Colgate, they will arrive this week and a new packing date will be organised.

Solar buddies: - Has been a big success. The next school to start will be Fingal and Burringbar. Brendon will come May 12 with a couple of the participating kids to feed back to the Club.

Desiree: Good news, the Book Fair will go ahead. The Jessie McMillan Hall has been hired for just the 1 week. The Club will need to pay rent for the hall. It will be advertised in the Weekly and social media. Set up will be Sun afternoon May 16 2pm to carry the book boxes into the hall. The boxes will be unpacked Wed May 19. The Book Fair will run on the Wed, Thurs, Fri, Saturday and pack up Sun May 23.

Judy informed us of the Mothers Day gifts for Greenhills and Opal will be drawer liners and soaps as suggested by the staff. Could Club members please bring in chocolates that are individually wrapped e.g. Roses or Favourites.

Rhonda awarded the Fellowship Award to Leonie Huggins for her wonderful attributes as a person and to the Club.

Ann introduced the speaker Meredith who is a Clinical Nurse Consultant at Murwillumbah Hospital & the Norther Rivers Infection Control, who gave us a very apt COVID update.
Meredith gave an overview of past pandemics the world has faced.

The statistics of COVID-19 to date are 142 000 000 cases worldwide and 3 000 000 deaths.
The virus has not peaked.
There are currently 700 000 new cases/day and 10 000 global deaths/ day (that we know of).
Australia has recorded 29 724 cases.
For the unforeseeable future our best bet for staying safe is to keep adopting the preventative measures of physical distancing, handwashing, wearing face masks and staying home if sick and getting tested, and getting vaccinated when able to.
Meredith then discussed the vaccine roll-out and fielded people’s varied questions
Peter thanked Meredith for the very informative and important presentation and role she has of educating us of the facts when there is a lot of misinformation around
Kaylene Stanford won the raffle
Peter issued fines, Elizabeth added to the fines and Cathy did cross-fines.
