Angela Haye, Principal of the Hanover Educational Institute, in Hanover Jamaica, spoke to the Rotary Club of Airdrie about the dire needs in the community where her school is based, and a five part project that can benefit from Rotary’s help: Education; Transport; Health; Water & Sanitation.

Their community is very much affected by extortion, guns and the drug trade, which have become part of the commerce of the area. To the young minds that discard the associated dangers, these alternatives for money and power are perceived to be more attractive than the benefits of education or an honorable existence.

As part of providing opportunities, Angela started the school and clinic, and has built these as the start of implementing her vision, with the support of some global institutions. Her quest now is to expand on it.

The project is:
Education: Alternative and supplement to overcrowded and discriminatory system
Transport: For pupils & staff to assist with attendance and participation.
Health: Clinic, not just for local first response treatment, but also general health education and promoting healthier life style.
Water & Sanitation: To improve the provision of these services and in support of the school and clinic.

We thank Cliff, Gerry, Linda and Jim from the Rotary Club of Calgary North for introducing Angela to us.
