Why we need to keep the polio immunization high

We are “this close” as Rotary’s EndPolioNow campaign states… A polio-free world is within reach…

Rotary_thiscloseThe aim of the immunization drives are to prevent a reintroduction of the virus into all polio-free countries until the moment the globe is polio-free.

Only 1% of infected people develop symptoms so in a globalized world it is not hard to imagine there is still a danger that silent carriers may infect others whilst travelling around the globe.

It is that simple.

We cannot allow the immunization drive to slow down, or even to postpone it due to lack of budget. All effort would be lost. You can help! Join in and support the EndPolioNow campaign.

CIDA and The Gates Foundation will match Canadian Rotarians' million dollars for polio through March 2013.
The Mission:
To raise awareness and a minimum of 1 Million dollars in much needed funding which will be matched by CIDA and The Gates Foundation.
The Government of Canada, through the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) will provide funds to the World Health Organization's Global Polio Eradication Initiative at a ratio of $1 for every $1 raised by Rotarians in Canada, up to a maximum of $1 million. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will likewise provide funds of equal value, at a ratio of $1 for every $1 raised by Rotarians in Canada. This would result in every $1 raised by the Rotary Foundation leveraging an additional $2.
