Thank You
Many thanks to George, for the organisation of surplus school uniforms and associated clothing for Donations in Kind (DIK) from Wayne Hedrick. Wayne also kindly donated two sewing machines (one for home and one industrial/commercial). I have given these to the Afghani refugee ladies sewing group and an Afghani man who was a tailor in his home country and now would like to set up his own business.
Jamshod Dinner
Thanks to Adrian, Paul and Rob for attending the dinner on Sunday night. As expected this was a real feast after Ramadan, however the little green chillies did catch some of us by surprise (Rob did enjoy the hot and fiery blast). We had a long and enlightening series of conversations, ranging from football to politics.

Guest Speaker
Our guest for the morning was Helen Yorston, Manager of the Bendigo Volunteer Resources Centre (BVRC). Helen has been in this role for 17years with the last 5 years now located in the Bendigo Library.
Given that it was National Volunteers Week, it was appropriate that Helen provided us with a great update on what is happening locally.
The organisation receives $65,000 from the Federal government and $25,000 for the City of Greater Bendigo as well as other sources of support E.g., RCoBS, fund raisers, movie nights, morning teas, etc
As members of both the State (Volunteers Vic) and Federal (Volunteering Australia), the Bendigo group is one of 50 across the nation.
The BVRC encourages volunteers into a diverse range of activities, including social and cultural. They assist to connect people in the community, including the retirees, new residents, schools and culturally and linguistically diverse newcomers.
For volunteers to become engaged and to support a community organisation there must be best practice, meaningful activities and be safe for all concerned. There are many stories to share of resilience, caring and sharing and positive engagement for those who become involved.
There must be the right volunteer for the right opportunity and the aim is to build a vibrant and resourceful community through volunteering.
With a newly established volunteer portal, you can register online. This will then provide you with a digital record of your volunteering which can be a valuable asset for future employment, especially for the young.
There will be a Volunteers Expo, Win-Win, in Activity Room 1, 10.00 am on June 4th at the Bendigo Library.
As expected from a volunteer based organisation like Rotary, there were many questions. Thanks Helen for an opportune information session on Volunteering and those programs facilitated in the community we all live in.
