Bulletin Week 27

Thank You
Thank you to everyone who contributed towards the success of Australia Day at Lake Weeroona. It is a day when many of us would like to be in other places, with family or friends, however your dedication to, “Service above Self”, shines through, to be able to provide the community of Bendigo and surrounds with a great series of displays, activities and markets.
Please, pat yourselves on the back and say “well done” to all.

Last week in Rotary
Thanks to Rob as he took the chair in the absence of Doug. Good luck to Doug and safe travelling as the last details of our new dragon are being finalised in Hong Kong.

Guest presenters
With another excellent roll up, Rob introduced members Toni Carrington and Maurice Woodburn who gave us all a short, sharp and much focused guide to resuscitation, dealing with heat, snake bite and fatigue and other potential issues, prior to Australia Day. (He's only half the man he was!!!)
This was incredibly timely as Friday saw the temp. get to 45.9oC  whilst the brave were setting up for Saturday. Under Maurice’s guidance, we all survived the day; although one member vows and declares that they will not have an iced coffee again when it is that hot. Thanks Bruce for thinking of me.

Australia Day
Thankfully the temperature did drop for the day, however given a long weekend and many not wishing to venture out after Friday the crowd was well down. Some of the anticipated displays and usual stall holders also decided not to attend. There will be those who “in hindsight” will provide some expert commentary when we have our debrief in the near future.
There are many people who need to be thanked for their contribution towards the Day; those who do need to be identified are Peter Rainey, Ted Gretgrix, Kevin Reade and Bruce Fraser.
Pete has guided us through another day, with changes to the structure and organisation sent to test us all. All of the changes initiated, are and always will be beyond our control.
Ted managed the market with his usual calm and respectful demeanor, dealing with the vagaries of personalities and unusual requests.
Kev and Bruce would challenge Nostradamus in their ability to predict the quantities of food and drink. Again their guidance and organisation provided sustenance for all.
Until you have “walked in their shoes”, in the organisation and coordination of such a huge day, can you appreciate the multitude of jobs that have to be done. Thank you all.

District Conference.
Registrations are still open until Jan 31. Please let Maurice know if you are attending and would like to have a get together in Melbourne on the Friday night

Form 3 and Rotary Insurance.
Could all those members who wish to have their Form 3 ratified, please provide your Form 3 completed details with nominated referees and contact numbers to Judy, Rob or Graeme.

Director’s reports
Kev had to hand the roster sheet for Australia Day and Ted was quick to also indicate all hands for assistance in the market area.

Golf Night
The annual RC Bendigo night golf is on again, Friday Feb 15th. The club will support a team and it looks like at this stage Paul, Nick and Glenn are starters to get a team ready. Doug is also organising a team for the “Rising Sun”, so there will be plenty of opportunities for those who wish to play.

Cluster Presidents Report
ADG Cliff Downey facilitated the regular bi monthly meeting of Cluster Presidents in Eaglehawk .With only 3 clubs present, it still was a great meeting to discuss programs and future plans.
  • The RI Rep on Membership and Publicity will be in the region on Feb 19th after the conference with DG Bronwyn. A visiting schedule to highlight some of the activities that our clubs undertake will be developed. A visit to the RANCH is planned.
  • An offer to extend the time allocated on Community FM radio has been extended to Rotary to one hour on the first Wednesday of each month. If anyone is interested in becoming a “Radio presenter” for Rotary, please let me know.
  • An opportunity for clubs to provide catering for the D 9800 leadership group (approx. 30) has been flagged. This will be a full weekend at Camp Getaway in April. More details on dates etc. are required.
  • RI Day is on Feb 23rd and it has been agreed to set up a Rotary display at Bendigo Marketplace on that day, 9am-4pm. There is a “no charge” for this activity and a volunteer roster will be developed. This will be about Rotary in our community as an information/promotional opportunity.

Raffle
  • Mark Weragoda has provided the club from RC Flemington Kensington Inc. with raffle tickets to support the Past District Governor Vance Hilton Memorial Fundraiser for Parkinson’s Victoria. I have tickets on hand if you wish to support.
