President’s report
Reminders for the following;

  • Please remember to book and pay for the upcoming changeover dinner.  Toni and Adrian are rather concerned that they will be by themselves!

Director’s reports
Toni also has organised some sample jackets for members to try on prior to purchase if required. It is particularly pleasing to see members in the club colours when undertaking activities. It does show that we are a unified team, so if you don’t have a T shirt, jumper or jacket or hat, please see Toni to order one before our next outing.

Last week’s activities
Bendigo Toyota vocational visit
Chairman Rob gathered a good number of members and Bendigo Toyota staff to order with a well-timed joke, something about where the smallest can of soft drink is manufactured? The answer, Minnesod(t)a. It did amuse several of the staff and some applauded with appreciation, not often seen. Thanks Rob for stepping into an interesting morning for all present.
As you are now aware, Bendigo Toyota and Paul and Sue De Araugo were presented by the Rotary Club of Bendigo Sandhurst and the Foundation of Rotary International, a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of the continuous support to the community of Bendigo and surrounds, including;
Bendigo Health Foundation, Bendigo Bank Fun Run, The Bendigo Spirit, The Otis Foundation, Elmore and Boort Football Clubs, Inglewood Community Neighbourhood House, Bendigo Foodshare, South Bendigo Bowls Club, Charlton Driving School, Field and Game –Bendigo Branch, Bendigo Biggest Ever Blokes Lunch, Give Me 5 for Kids and the Australian Cancer Council. Unfortunately at the last hour Paul could not attend as he was with a mate who is gravely ill in South Australia.
The presentation is a first for our club and came about by one member recognising what Bendigo Toyota has done within the community of Bendigo and surrounds. That member researched not only Bendigo Toyota, but also the rules and regulations related to Certificates of Appreciation and Paul Harris Fellows, both of which can be presented by a Rotary Club. A nomination paper was made to the representative committee of the club, the President, Past President and incoming President(s), and with the Secretary as an ex-officio. Any member can make a nomination, at any time. In most cases a presentation is reserved for the changeover celebration; however this does not always have to be the case.
The club accumulates a reserve of credits from our annual donations within the Rotary Foundation and we can call on these credits at any time.
A big thank you to John Cannon and Gabe Richards from Bendigo Toyota, for being the on ground organisers of the morning, which included a great breakfast and a review of the new hybrid Toyota Rav 4. It was interesting that the ’66 and ’74 Corollas seemed to appeal to some. I think there was a lot of reminiscing, and the odd thought of maybe an upgrade?
Lunch at Lightning Reef Primary School.
A keen and enthusiastic team consisting of Barb and John Cannon, Toni and Ray Carrington, Cathie, Barb, Glenn and Bernadette (from Inner Wheel), tackled the task of making over 320 rounds of sandwiches for both students and staff at the school. Ham, stras, egg and lettuce, vegemite and cheese were on the menu, with a production line set up to maximise the efficiency, it was a sight to behold! A late starter, being the President was greeted with, Where’s the coffee?. The pre-ordered coffees finally arrived just as all of the sandwiches were being delivered to each of the classrooms. To say they were a success is an understatement, however we will have to wait for a final assessment by students and staff to see if the quantities, ratios and types of sandwiches provided need to be continued as is, or modify.
A big thank you to all for the organisation and execution of a great activity. A particular thanks must go to Pat Sheehan for the supply of the hard boiled eggs for the egg and lettuce sandwiches.
Our next event will be a BBQ lunch, again highly anticipated by all of the children and staff.
The proposed dates for next lunches are;
July 19                                IWCB                       Sandwiches (Inner Wheel)
August 9                                  RCoBS                    BBQ
September 13                          IWCB                      Sandwiches (Inner Wheel)
October 11                                RCoBS                    BBQ
November 8                            IWCB                      Sandwiches (Inner Wheel)
December 13                          RCoBS                    BBQ

We THINK we will need 6 volunteers on the sandwich roster. When sandwiches are on roster volunteers will be needed from 9.00am until 12.00pm
On BBQ roster we will need a few extra. Times for BBQ roster will be advised at a later date.

Partners of Rotarians are more than welcome to assist.
ALL volunteers MUST have a current WWC card!
If you are able to assist please contact Barb M or John C.

Nescafe manages to arrange a meeting with the Pope at the Vatican.

After receiving the Papal blessing, the Nescafe official whispers, "Your Holiness, we have an offer for you. Nescafe is prepared to donate $100 million to the church if you change the Lord's Prayer from 'Give us this day our daily bread' to 'Give us this day our daily coffee.'"

The Pope responds, "That is impossible. The prayer is the word of the Lord It must not be changed."

"Well," says the Nescafe man, "we anticipated your reluctance. For this reason we will increase our offer to $300 million."
"My son, it is impossible. For the prayer is the word of the Lord, and it must not be changed."

The Nescafe guy says, "Your Holiness, we at Nescafe respect your adherence to the faith, but we do have one final offer...
"We will donate $500 million - that's half a billion dollars - to the great Catholic Church if you would only change the Lord's Prayer from 'Give us this day our daily bread' to 'Give us this day our daily coffee.' Please consider it" And he leaves.

The next day the Pope convenes the College of Cardinals.
"There is some good news," he announces, "and some bad news. The good news is that the Church will come into $500 million."
"And the bad news, your Holiness?" asks a Cardinal.

"We're losing the Tip Top Bread account!"
