Count Down
January 17, and only nine days to Australia Day at Lake Weeroona. Thank you in advance to all Rotarians, friends, and family who are about to help.
Peter Rainey will review details with us next week, January 24th at our usual weekly meeting, at The Bridge Hotel.
It’s an enjoyable family day, engaging with some fifteen thousand folk.
Afio mai [That’s “Welcome” in Samoan] to our visitors from Rotary Club of Bendigo:
Past Presidents Larrie Winzar and Glenn Reilly, and the indomitable Rhonda Reilly.
And welcome to Pauline and Stephanie Woodburn, and our Member for Nagambie, Rotarian John Cannon.
Cathie, Evelyn, Ray and Toni have applied for invitation to Government House at the official visit of Ian Riseley Rotary International President.
Today our very own Paul Kirkpatrick took us to Samoa.
It is humbling to hear of Rotarians who have been donating time and resources to Samoa for some twenty years.
The visit Paul described was indeed a confluence of energy from Bendigo, supported by the local RC of Apia [the capital]; funds from New Zealand, all coordinated through RAWCS.
This was a serious two-week project, the images indicating to me, at least, that the village of Auala on the island of Savii is more sophisticated than Maubisse Timor-Leste.
Well done Team.
Those students, dressed immaculately are very fortunate.
The next Swimland Great Australia Day Swim is being held on Friday, January 26 2018.
Presented by The Rotary Club of Brighton, the opportunity to enter the open water events
or junior dash for this iconic Aussie event and FUNdraise for some worthy causes. All proceeds
from the Swimland Great Australia Day Swim will be used by Rotary to support charities and
community organisations providing support to disadvantaged children and youths.

The conference is in Warrnambool, a beautiful coastal town situated on the Prince’s Highway  south east of Melbourne and dating from the gold rush days of the 1850’s. It is a fabulous location and we hope you’ve had a look at the website to gain some idea of what’s in store;
We look forward to keeping you informed and to seeing you there.
Industry Visit Bendigo Jockey Club
Wednesday January 31st 2018
7.00am for 7.30am Start
Our meeting of Wednesday January 31st 2018 will be an Industry Visit
to the Bendigo Jockey Club (Bendigo Racecourse). The address is
Strathdale/White Hills Road, Ascot. We will meet over breakfast and
our visit will include an overview of the Racing Industry in Bendigo by
Margot Falconer, the President of the Bendigo Jockey Club, and a tour
of points of interest including the opportunity to watch track work.
We will gather in Silks Restaurant, which is part of the newer stand to
the right of the old stand as you enter through the wrought iron gates.
This meeting will be at our regular meeting time.
Breakfast will be a continental style with cereal, toast, condiments,
orange juice, tea and brewed coffee at a cost of $22. Members are
asked to note that this is a worksite and are requested to exercise
caution on arrival. There will be a number of horses on their way to
track-work in the vicinity of the wrought iron gates. We are grateful to
