Gallipolis Rotary To Conduct Water Project in Guatemala.

It was a snowy morning for a Rotary meeting, but Gallipolis Rotarians met for the regular meeting in spite of the weather conditions.  President Chuck Clark welcomed everyone to today's meeting.  Our special guest was Karen Edger, RN, who provided our program today.  VP Kevin Dennis gave our invocation.

President's Announcements--Bonnie McFarland turned in a heavy coin box today for a contribution to the Rotary  Foundation.  Thanks, Bonnie!  Yesterday, President Chuck and Clyde Evans visited the Granville Rotary Club yesterday to meet representatives of Mayan Families.  Chuck indicated the meeting was very productive and we will operate our water project through this NGO in Panajachel, Guatemala.  He and Clyde will both be traveling to Guatemala in March to distribute bucket water filters purchased with a District 6690 grant and matching club funds.  They will also meet Rotarians from Upper Arlington who will be there working their club's school and water projects.  They will have lots to report when they come back!  (Photo used with permission of Mayan Families.)

Clothing for the Philippines--Five Rotarians joined together last Wednesday to move the clothing donation from Wing Haven in Vinton to the warehouse in Pt. Pleasant where the palletized donations will be loaded on a container bound for the Philippines.  Engaged in this effort were Bonnie McFarland, Lee Bauman, VP Kevin Dennis, Resty Alonzo, and President Chuck Clark.  The van load of bagged and sorted clothes was loaded, transported, and unloaded in about 2 1/2 hours, leaving some time for fellowship and coffee at Tudor's in Pt. Pleasant.  More pictures are on our club's Facebook page.

Last Tuesday--President Chuck reminded everyone that next week THERE WILL BE NO MORNING MEETING!  Tuesday, January 28th is Last Tuesday and we will meet at the Carmichael Agency on Jackson Pike.  Loralee and John will be hosting us so look for the sign on the right just before Smith Trucking!

Fellowship--VP Kevin asked member, Shana Booher to provide a 'member moment' to let us know a little about her and how she likes Rotary.  Our Club Secretary has a beautiful family, represents Holzer well as their Credentialling professional, is a very positive individual who really loves Rotary!  Thanks, Shana!

Split-The-Pot--VP Kevin also ran our STP today collected $15 which wasn't bad for a snowy morning, and made a $5.00 small pot.  Our lucky ticket holder today was . . . Shana Booher!  Shana donated her winnings today to the RI Foundation!  In the draw for the 'really big one' of $156.00, Shana pulled the two of spades, leaving the ever-growing jackpot for another week!  Our Foundation Fine was assessed against anyone 'who was wearing brown shoes!'  Good one!

Program--Our speaker today was Karen Edger, RN, who was introduced by program chair, Bonnie McFarland.  Our speaker shared the philosophies and services offered by the Holzer Caridovascular Institute.  Members learned the various physicans and professsionals who work in this vital department.  Karen also told a personal story of how she experienced her own heart problem and ended up requiring a heart pacemaker.  One interesting and important sidelight to our speaker today was her mother's experience with polio and how her mother's determination to become a nurse, complete her education and exceed everyone's expectations has been an important influence in her own life.  Thank you, Karen and Bonnie, for the interesting program today!
