Rotarians Learn About Community Drug Issues

Rotarians Learn About Meth Production

Today's meeting of the Gallipolis Rotary Club focused on local drug issues with guest speaker, Sgt. Chris Gill from the  Gallia County Sheriff's Office.  Our speaker was introduced by Rotarian and local Municipal Court Judge, Margaret Evans. Judge Evans declared the importance of educating ourselves concerning the abuse and dangers of Methamphetamines.   Sgt. Gill described to Rotarians what meth production looks like, how it's made and the side effects.  He shared some fascinating videos about the dangers meth users endure and how children can be affected too.  You can find meth labs in most rural areas and Gallia county is no exception.  Combatting drugs in our culture is one of the newest areas of Rotary's involvement in local communities.  Becoming informed is critical to understanding this growing crisis

Rotarians enjoyed the opportunity to ask many questions about the meth epidemic in our area.  This was extremely interest topic and very disturbing considering the toxins being used to make and then ingest the product.  Thank you, Margaret and Sgt. Gill for the excellent program today.

Club President, Chuck Clark, wecolmed members to the meeting on a frosty November day.  Our guests included our speaker, Sgt. Chris Gill from the Gallia County Sheriff's Office and a prospective member, Jamie Bartee, Adult Basic Literacy Education Coordinator at Buckeye Hills Career Center.  VP Kevin Dennis provided our invocation.

President' Announcements--As a result of last week's Board Meeting the club provided $500 to the Gallia Senior Resource Center to help them with window replacement.  Rotarian Resty Alonzo made the presentation last Tuesday and it was featured on our club's Facebook page.  In addition the board approved the funding of the liquid Tylenol for the Gallia County Health Department, as we hope to have a representative with us next week.

November's "Last Tuesday"--VP Kevin Dennis announced our regular "Last Tueday" for November will be held on Monday, November 25th at Vinton Baptist Church from 5:00-6:30 pm.  Rotarians will roll up their sleeves and take part in the monthly food pantry distribution.  Rotarians will also help serve a turkey dinner for food pantry recipients!  Gallipolis Rotarians will come together and put "Service Above Self" into action for this event.

Fellowship--VP Kevin shared a law enforcement story about an Irish man who had a few too many.  Gordon Amsbary told a story from Louis Brumfield about Ohio.  Today's Words of Wisdom came from Alvera Robinson!

Happy Buck$--The club received a Happy Buck from Clyde Evans who just returned from a great trip in the Middle East.  Gordo collected late bucks from latecomers Sammy Lopez and Lou Ellen Werry.

Split-the-Pot--Kevin Dennis ran our STP for the meeting today.  Ticket sales were fairly brisk and our small pot grew to $7.00.  Kevin asked our guest, Jamie Bartee, to draw the lucky ticket, which was held by Alvera Robinson!  In the draw for the 'Big One of some large amount' our winner drew the Eight of Diamonds, keeping the Large Pot in play for another week!  Alvera graciously donated her winnings back to the club.  Our Foundation Fine was assessed against anyone who was NOT wearing black shoes today!

Next Week's Program--Rotarian Jim Morrison is our Program Chair for next week.

Have a great week everyone!
