Clayton Newman Speaks to Gallipolis Rotary

  
 
 

President Chuck Clark opened the morning meeting of the Gallipolis Rotary Club and welcomed members and guests.  The club welcomed back PDG Mel and Lydia Simon from their travels in the Philippines and Operation We Care Medical Mission.  Mel will be giving the club an update about the mission in a couple of weeks.  Dave Nadler had a guest, Clayton Newman, who will be our guest speaker.

 
President's Announcements--Chuck reminded members next Tuesday is Last Tuesday and there will no morning meeting.  Instead, we will celebrate Last Tuesday at Farmer's Bank 5:30 pm.  Our host will be Rotarian Heather Crum.  Chuck reminded members a short board meeting will follow the meeting today.
 
Town Hall Event--Reminder of the town hall event on April 7th at 5:30 pm with Citizens Promoting Recovery (CRP) at Elizabeth Chapel Gymnasium. Our club will be assisting in setting up tables and chairs for this important community event to help fight the problem of drug abuse in our community.  Rotary 'Touch Points' will be awarded for helping with this event.
 
President-Elect Training--VP Kevin Dennis updated the club about his weekend at PETS in Columbus.
Next year's theme is "Light Up Rotary" and Kevin is already exciting about the possibilities for his year as club President.  Next year's District Governor is Randy Davies who will be visiting Gallipolis soon.  Our current DG Bart Mahoney was not able to attend due to a back ailment.  Kevin shared some information regarding possible club projects with the shelter boxes used for emergency situations.  Kevin presented President Nominee Charlene Smith with a Rotary organizer to help her get organized for her year as Rotary President following Kevin.
 
Club Fellowship--Gordon Amsbary ran our fellowship today.  VP Kevin offered a happy buck for the   largest graduating class they've had at their recovery program.  Charlene Smith bought one because she is just happy.  Margaret Evans caught a late fine.  Gordon shared some rhymes, significant dates in history and other trivia.  Debbie Saunders celebrated a birthday back in February and Gordon collected a donation for a Rotary Quartet to sign to Debbie.  The fearless Rotary singers included Resty Alonzo, Kevin Dennis, Paul Koch, and Charlene Smith.  Good job, guys! 
 
Split-The-Pot--Today's STP was handled by Charlene Smith, and ticket sales drop the small pot up the  $7.00.  Charlene asked our guest speaker, Clayton Newman, to draw out the winning ticket.  Today's winner was Marlin Rose, who hasn't won in six years!  Marlin offered his winnings today to the local foundation.  In the draw for the 'Big Pot' of some undetermined amount hovering near the $200 mark, Marlin drew the seven of hearts keeping the pot moving on for another week.  The Foundation Fine was assessed against anyone who hasn't had new carpet put in in the last six months.
 
Program--Dave Nadler introduced our speaker for today, Clayton Newman.   Clayton operates Breakthrough Consulting Services in Jackson. The business helps clients with process improvement and diminishing waste to add value and improve customer satisfaction.  His firm has helped businesses and industrial clients improve their financial botton line in Ohio, West Virginia, Arkansas, New Hampshire, and in China, Czech Republic, and Austria. Thank you Clayton and Dave, for the excellent presentation.
