Interact Club provides 114 meals

The Zia Middle School Interact Club recently had their first service project, since being chartered, with a food drive on the school campus that benefited Casa de Peregrinos. They collected 125 pounds of food, valued at $215, that will provide 114 meals to people in need in the community. School advisors Linda Knutson and Amy Krohn, along with Rotary volunteers Rosemary Crawford and Elke Wunderlich, were on hand to cheer them on. Lorenzo Alba from Casa de Peregrinos helped the group by providing the barrels to collect the food and advising them as to the types of food that would be most needed. Interact is a club for youth from ages 12 to 18 who want to join together to address issues in their community. The club at Zia is sponsored by the Las Cruces — Mesilla Valley Rotary Club.
