October 18, 2020 - Today the Creston Valley Rotary Club fulfilled its commitment to honour Gordon Rodney for his life of service to his family & friends, the community and Rotary.  The private presentation of the Paul Harris Recognition took place in Gordon and Elaine's Wynndel home with Darren, Darcy and Karla present to be with their mom and to honour their dad.
Gordon passed away early in the COVID-19 pandemic and we were all "robbed" of the opportunity to properly say goodbye and honour his service and memory.   As a long-time member of the Creston Valley Rotary Club, Gord served as Erickson School Breakfast program coordinator for many years, and faithfully and skillfully served "cinnamon toast" with Elaine every Thursday morning.  He also managed the club's Dictionary and Thesaurus program for grade 3 & 5 students in the Creston Valley.  He was one of the original and trusted workers for the CVRC firewood fundraiser ("Block Party"), which meant he knew how to safely operate a big chainsaw.  Gord could always be counted on for any of the many hands-on work projects of the club, and he always...ALWAYS...showed up with a smile and a positive encouraging attitude.  Even as he was challenged with his heart issues, and the many trips to Kelowna for his "tune-ups", he was never down and always managed to cheer up those around him.
Creston Valley Rotary Club is proud of the record of "SERVICE ABOVE SELF" shown and modelled by Gordon Rodney, and all club members honour that memory today with the presentation of the Paul Harris Fellow certificate, pin and a photo collage to Elaine Rodney along with Darren, Darcy and Karla.
The club acknowledged this Paul Harris Recognition when meeting by ZOOM on May 26, 2020, and a video tribute - "Remembering Gord Rodney" was presented.  If you wish to view it again and remember our dear is the link to the video....
