ImageIn February of this year, the Cranbrook Rotaract Club was formed by a group of college students eager to make a difference in the community and the world. After a few months off for the summer, the group kicked off the new Rotary year with a small handful of returning members fundraising and volunteering in the Cranbrook AIDS Walk.

Since September, the Cranbrook Rotaract Club has DOUBLED its membership! We have participated in a number of activities and events in the community, and have had three meetings so far. We made a fundraising team for the Cranbrook AIDS Walk and helped out with traffic control; we helped Cranbrook Sunrise Rotary and the Friends of the Library move boxes of books in for the Book Sale and we took shifts volunteering on the day of the sale. More recently we stuck Rotary labels inside the covers of the dictionaries the Cranbrook Rotary Club will be distributing to Grade 3 students across town, and we helped Anne and Antoine Beurskens with the Minkha Sweater Sale, as well as set-up and take-down of the event. Our first event in December was joining the army of volunteers from Cranbrook Rotary, the Chamber of Commerce, the Fire Department, and a number of others, in filling and serving plates at the Seniors' Christmas Dinner at the Colombo Lodge!

We are looking forward to helping out for a number of projects in the spring and summer with both Rotary clubs in town, including Rotary Way maintenance after the snow melts, cleaning up and yard work at J. Fred Scott Rotary Villa, the film festival, Rotary Way Day, the Paint the Train project, and the Gran Fondo. We are excited to work with the Cranbrook Rotary Club and the Cranbrook Sunrise Rotary Club, providing young, strong volunteers and smiling faces for any events we can! In the spring and summer, we also anticipate the possibilities of participating in the PETS Conference and RYLA. We have had a great four months so far, and we look forward to the next several months of service!

On behalf of the Cranbrook Rotaract Club, I would like to thank both of our sponsoring Rotary clubs, as well as Mark Pinnell and Doreen Adams, for all their help, support, and mentorship, as well as providing us with volunteer opportunities and Rotary connections. Also, thank you for the club T-shirts!
