At this time of year, people across many different cultures and holding many beliefs are united in celebration.  They celebrate peace, life and the coming of light in the company of family and friends.  They reflect on all that has happened in the past year, look ahead to what the future may bring, and dream about how they can help make a world a better place for all of humanity.
2014 is a year that every member of the Cranbrook Sunrise Rotary Club can be proud of.  We welcomed six new members: Penny Coyle, Linda Hastings, Sherry Jackson, Maggie Lindsay-Tadey, Arlene Schroh and Dan Schellenberg.  This week, we welcome the seventh new member, Kevin Weaver.  And our honorary member Hardy Nielsen became an active member again, ably taking on the role of treasurer.
Whether new or long-standing, all members kept busy helping out with our club’s projects and activities.  This list offers a mere sampling of what we participated in; it is by no means exhaustive:
  • Sponsoring a Sam Steele Sweetheart candidate
  • Rockies Film Series and Festival
  • Sam Steele Days Moir Park Concession
  • RYLA
  • Youth Exchange
  • Long Drive Contest
  • Golf Card and Mirafibre Cleaning Cloth sales
  • Kootenay Rockies Gran Fondo
  • Paint the Train
  • Scholarship Program
  • Annual Book Sale
  • Shelter Box
  • Tegucigalpa Market Children sponsorship
  • Values & Ethics Program
  • Shipping out the medical supplies
  • End Polio Now fundraiser
  • Angel Tree
Our members truly embody the Rotary ideal of service above self!
So in this holiday season, I sincerely thank you for all you have done.  Through your contributions, you helped make the world a better place.

I wish you all a happy Christmas and all the best in the New Year.
