The Rotary Club of New Orleans Riverbend has many ongoing projects and has partnered with community non-profits and Fortune 500 companies in delivering service throughout the world.
Our student partners at Rotaract at Tulane assist us in delivering ongoing service in many areas:
Belize Educational Outreach - In partnership with local Rotary Clubs in Belize, our Rotaract at Tulane students have taught summer school in the city of San Pedro, on Belize's largest island, Ambergris Caye.
International Scholarship - The Rotary Club of New Orleans Riverbend has hosted several scholars via Rotary's Global Grant Scholarship and (former) Ambassadorial Scholarship Program. Our Ambassadorial Scholar Aiko Kaji completed her Ph.D. in Public Health in 2018 and now works for the United Nations in Hanoi, Vietnam. Our Global Grant Scholar Anabel Mifsud is finishing her program at the University of New Orleans, concentrating on Domestic Violence Prevention.
iKnow Concert Series, Uganda - Along with the Global Livingston Institute, we are a lead sponsor and organizer of the iKnow Concert Series, which provides HIV/AIDS testing, treatment, and medical assistance in Uganda. The iKnow Concert Series is recognized as being more efficient in delivering HIV/AIDS and other sexual health treatment than such important organizations as the World Health Organization, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, or Doctors Without Borders. The concert series has served more than 50,000 participants since its inception.
Emergency Transport Service, Torbeck, Haiti - Our Club is helping provide an emergency vehicle for the Maison de Naissance, a birth center in rural southwest Haiti. Birth attendants - women who train as midwives and doulas with the birth center - are provided with solar-powered cell phones, and in the event of problem births that require medical intervention, can contact the Maison de Naissance to send vehicle support to bring expectant mothers to the birth center or local hospital in the event of complications.
Alligator Festival, St. Charles Parish, Louisiana - As a partner to the Rotary Club of St. Charles Parish, our club supplies manpower that makes the largest annual festival in St. Charles Parish go smoothly. Our club both takes admission at the gate and staffs a food booth at this annual festival in the last full weekend of September.
Freret Street Festival, New Orleans, Louisiana - Our signature event, the Rotary Club of New Orleans Riverbend is a key ongoing sponsor of the resurrected Freret Street Festival, an event which has helped a traditionally underserved part of our city operate a year-round community market to help grow its local economy.
In addition to the above, our club annually supports many local causes:
SBP, a home rebuilding program that has helped re-build houses devastated by natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina, Superstorm Sandy, tornadoes, and flooding. Our club has been an active fundraiser and provided labor to rebuild more than 5 homes in the New Orleans area as well as supporting SBP's national mission.
Raintree House, a home for foster girls who have experienced dislocation or trauma during foster placements. Our club each year provides a Christmas Party and Christmas gifts for the girls living in the protected environment of Raintree House who would otherwise have no holiday cheer.
