ImageRandy Randall new head of what used to be the Convention and Visitors Bureau for the city of Santa Fe explained why he renamed the bureau Tourism Santa Fe. What is the fastest way to indicate a new direction for a city Bureau but to give it a new name. That new direction, set by Randall and Mayor Gonzales, goes beyond keeping the Convention Center booked. It uses the Center as a tool to increase occupancy, tourism spending and Gross Receipts Tax collections for the city. Rates will be $10,000 for the whole facility, $4000 for the ballroom with a 20% discount for nonprofits and a further 20% discount for nonprofit partners in city projects.

Santa Fe has other tools that Randall is coordinating. He is helping the Arts Commission refocus on benefiting the city as a whole. We can expect the city and the county Lodger's Tax expenditures to be better coordinated with Randall's planning. He pointed out that by law those funds must be spent on promotion, so what has been committed to attracting "The Bachelor" wouldn't be available for education or feeding the homeless. But the gross receipts tax collections that would come from even a small percentage of the 14 million viewers of the program coming to visit Santa Fe would be available for the city priorities. Randall is pleased with the marketing work done by Cynthia Delgado and has made arrangements to build further on previous successful public relations programs. By filling several long vacant positions Randall believes he will have a team that can take advantage Santa Fe's recent triumph in being named Conde Nast's  number one small town destination.
