Bob has served the field of philanthropy in multiple roles including that of a foundation CEO, advisor, researcher and global development professional. He was the longest serving private foundation CEO in New Mexico and is currently the President of Edge Philanthropy, LLC, a consulting firm entirely dedicated to institutional and family philanthropy. He has deep knowledge, experience, and networks in foundation leadership, governance, endowment/investment management, multi-generational and geographically dispersed family engagement, and regulatory compliance, as well as grantmaking focus areas including education reform, higher education, workforce development, community and economic development, social services, healthcare, marginalized populations, and rural grant making. His current experience has added work in animal and natural habitat protection. Bob’s work has spanned four continents and he is actively engaged with fellow practitioners and researchers in many areas around the globe, including having served as a research advisor for several groups focused on philanthropy.
Bob has published his research and lectured globally on philanthropic practices. His research has offered important insights/findings on opaque/transparent practices and dynamics underlying foundation-to-foundation collaboration. Prior to his career in philanthropy, Bob planned and led successful turnaround campaigns for several underperforming healthcare institutions and managed a national network of hospitals.
Bob holds a PhD from Oklahoma State University, OPM certification from the Harvard Business School, an MBA from Santa Clara University, and an undergraduate degree from the University of Redlands. He presently lives in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
