Rotary Road Trip: Estancia’s 30th Annual Punkin’ Chunkin’

You haven’t truly experienced autumn in New Mexico until you’ve watched a pumpkin fly!
Join fellow Rotarians for a road trip to support the Rotary Club of Estancia’s 30th Annual Punkin’ Chunkin’, one of our district’s most entertaining fall traditions — and a fundraiser supporting educational scholarships for local students. Teams bring an impressive assortment of homemade launching machines — including trebuchets, catapults, slingshots and pumpkin cannons — to see who can send a pumpkin the farthest. Spectators can enjoy the competition, vendors, food, a pie-eating contest, exhibition launches and plenty of small-town New Mexico fun.
Schedule Highlights
- 8:00 AM – Gates open at the Punkin’ Chunkin’ field
- 10:30 AM – Parade on Main Street in Estancia
- Noon – Launcher registration and practice launching
- 12:30 PM – National Anthem
- 12:35 PM – Opening Launch
- 1:30 PM – Official launching begins
- 3:00 PM – Pie-Eating Contest & Exhibition Launching
- 4:00 PM – Final launching, results and awards
Admission
$5 per person
Children 5 and under are free
Door prizes will be announced throughout the day — you must be present to win!
The Punkin’ Chunkin’ grounds are located approximately 1.5 miles west of Estancia on NM Highway 55.
Santa Fe Rotary Road Trip
We’d love to make a Santa Fe Rotary outing of it! Watch for carpool and departure details as we get closer to the event.
While we’re in the area, the group may also include a visit to Manzano Mountain Retreat, the venue used for District 5520’s RYLA program.
Come support a fellow Rotary Club, help fund scholarships for New Mexico students, and experience one of the more delightfully unusual ways Rotary serves its community.
